Jon: I know of a situation in my local cemetery where there is a stone for a Union soldier who died at the battle of Shiloh. It was only through scouring the newspapers for obits that I discovered an article where his brother visited the battlefield and his grave in Tennessee. The stone that I show in my cemetery records was actually a duplicate. He's not buried here at all, and it is a government stone. Also, I have reason to believe I have an unmarked Confederate soldier buried in my cemetery, the only one with 38 Union vets also buried here. Because I can't 'prove' he is here (obit says so, and I think I know where) I don't think I'll have much luck in getting the stone from the government. Any suggestions? Kyle
Kyle, I would think that the obit would be proof enough.
