New Albany Township Trustee Tom Cannon (Floyd Co.) -- who recently backed down a developer bent on building a road through Slate Run Cemetery -- is working for pioneer cemeteries again. This time, he was immediately responsive to a report from some teenagers who found a 65-year-old tombstone for 2 children in an area creek. See: Children's tombstone returned to graves Teens found marker in New Albany creek http://www.courier-journal.com/localnews/2001/08/22/in082201s59042.htm Mr. Cannon will be at the Madison Cemetery Restoration Workshop on 10/6/2001. We are very encouraged by his willingness to get involved in this cause. Lois
I was out hitting three counties taking photos for my webs site. One stop was by this cemetery on Lena Bower Road near New Washington. I see someone tried to clean the cemetery, but apparently got a little too close with abusg hog or something breaking the stones. I will order a military marker for William Lawrence and will see what I can come up with for his spouse Catherine. There was other stones there before but did not notice them now. Lois are you still holding the monthly meetings? Stephen Franklin Indiana SAR
