List: Does anyone know anything about this group? http://www.friendsofruralcemeteries.org/ I received an email from them want me to post their link on my cemetry page. I have never heard of them. Maybe they have been around for awhile but they don't say much about what they do other than ask for support. They only have two links listed on their website. Hello List: I just thought I would mention this. In yesterday's Tipton Tribune there were some pictures from the Habitat-From-Humanity group that just got back from a 2-week trip down to Louisianna to build some houses. They also had a picture of a local cemetery and the picture had the caption that the cemeteries were in deplorable condition. Didn't know if anyone had heard about this. We are gearing up to get started whenever it gets dry. We are going to work on the old portion of the city cemetery. We have had many people ask when we were going to work on it. We talked to the caretaker, he went to the City Counsel and we are in. Joan Wray Tipton County

To bad I didn't have a recorder when the Mayor told me AND Jack Sandlin standing under the Tent before the Group picture how nice it will be when they get the designation and get a Plaque erected. Politicians have a short memory if it means stepping on another's toes. At least you have now made it known to the important ones, so maybe when the weather "Clears up" the Historical Plaque will be installed. Good job Jeff. Hope we don't have to go to the DHPA. I'll be up there 2 weeks from Friday, and will go by the cemetery, and maybe also visit some officials. I used to be on speaking terms with both Jack Sandlin and the Mayor. Maybe the neighbors would help if you contacted those that have bought houses around the cemetery. Keep me posted on what is going on. February 23, 2006 Vandal Trapped By Tombstone This seems like poetic justice. A teenager in Roodhouse, Illinois, went on a vandalism spree at a local cemetery. About 40 headstones were damaged. A funeral home director estimated the damage at about $10,000. However, it was rather easy for police to find the culprit. It seems that in the process of toppling a 600-pound gravestone, the stone fell on the mischief maker's leg, pinning him. He was pinned until authorities arrived at the scene. It took four firefighters to lift the stone off his leg. The young man is recovering from undisclosed injuries at a hospital. Police Chief Steve Speeks said the boy will be questioned about the alleged vandalism once he's released. blog Posted by Dick Eastman on February 23, 2006
