Jeannie We have a switch, a couple bought a 99 acre farm on the edge of New Albany, in New Albany Twp. They want to know if they can, they would like to be buried there. I told them there are a few things to take into consideration. Can you give me and those on the list who might run into this, some advice. I told them they may have to use GPR to make sure they have a clear place and not dig into remains. There has never been but a few buried in the 1/2 acre plot. With the price of cemetery lots and already owning a nice spot this might become the norm. What is your advice. Jack E. Briles Sr. jackbriles@aol.com New Albany, In.
Jessica, you and the group are doing good things with those young folks. And good job on that new web page! Here in Tippecanoe Co. we have been making visits and re-recording my GPS readings. Yep again, education in never ending as well as restoration. Rich has been great explaining my bad readings and the GPS process. We are working to get them all marked correctly on our county maps. I also have been adding photos to my listing. There's always more to work on. Our AREA PLAN Commission has added a pdf file and a pdf map last month if anyone wants to see it. http://www.tippecanoe.in.gov/apc/division.asp?fDD=28-232 And I do agree we don't benefit from hearing everyone's complaints. This is a email list where we should share concerns, questions, projects and ask for more education. No one really enjoys the bashing. I don't think it helps motivate anyone. We all have problems in EACH county in this country. Isn't that why some of us stepped up? Share more of that good news, L.A. I agree also, Sheila and rest. We need to get back to what we started helping other with cemetery work and solving problems together. We are working M-W-F am at the Tipton's Old Fairview Cemetery. It is about the worst for rows I have ever seen. They are going everywhere. If anyone wants to come and join us or to see what we are doing come over between 9-11 AM We usually leave around noon. This is only good weather, if it rains we cancel. This site has been real quite all winter. Hope every one is ok. We are down to three working our other couple are trying to find a house on a lake. Note from Delaware County Pioneer Preservation Committee of the Delaware County Historical Society, The committee worked at Bethel Cemetery in Harrison Township in Delaware County on April 22, 2006. We had Boys Scouts, farmers and Gaston's American Legion along with our group. Someone tried counting them and came up with 28 individuals in total! The cemetery dates back to 1865. It has an a lot of "leaners." Another workday will be May 13 at the Bethel Cemetery. The church across the street served up free lunch as well. They were grateful and so were we. Bob Good from our group did the networking and made much of the arrangements to make the day such an success. Warning the bees are out already. I got stung today before ever getting to the worksite. My Sting-Eze came in real handy. Mark Kreps mjkreps@gmail.com Muncie, IN On 4/22/06, KidClerk@aol.com <KidClerk@aol.com> wrote: > > > In a message dated 4/22/2006 1:02:13 P.M. Sorry, Lee...the cannon is getting restored this year and will be part of our sesquicentennial celebration.... KDC
Kyle, I was through that cemetery (if it has the neat stone tool shed) just last year, when I drove in on the east side for a change. Let me know if you ever want to get rid of the towns old cannon, I promise to take very good care of it. Your old truck has been visiting covered bridges. Lee

Also just this week Mark and Helen reinstalled the grave stone for a 2 year old boy who died in 1846 and whose grave is in the middle of a cow pasture. Thanks to my township trustee, the area of the grave was fenced off so that the cattle do not cause it any harm. Then the repaired stone was reset. This is one of the oldest graves in our county, and is 14 years older than our county itself. Just today I received permission to reinstall two grave stones on private property a few hundred yards from the stone mentioned above on another piece of property. Those date to 1858 and 1864 and are a husband and wife. The previous owner had removed them for safe keeping in the 1970's and they remained in his tool shed until his death last year . Unfortunately, his daughters did not want them put back up, so they gave them to me so they could be repaired with hopes of putting them back on the graves after the property sold or at least installing them in Riverside Cemetery with a plaque mentioning where the graves actually were. To continue on what Sheila brought up (thank you)... I will be taking an 8th grade group (about 25 students) out to the Clayton East Cemetery on Tuesday for a full day of restoration. The kids are very excited! This is the second trip to this cemetery, which has been "under construction" since August. We should be able to finish up most of the work on Tuesday. Larry and Sheila are helping out plus my husband and step-father. I really appreciate their help in my 9-months-pregnant state! Please check out my newly constructed (and not finished) Hendricks County PCRP website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inhendr2/ I've been working for the last year to visit each cemetery in the county and create a comprehensive list. If you're familar with the area I'd love to have any extra information you have. It's interesting to hear about the projects everyone is working on. I think that is the biggest strength of this list and I enjoy hearing about the progress we're making. It can often seem as though we are only making a small dent in the overall problem, but each little bit helps. We should continue to celebrate our accomplishments! Best wishes to the both of you, Jack & Betty Briles jackbriles@aol.com ==== INPCRP Mailing List ==== Quote from William Gladstone (1809-1897), three-time Prime Minister of England and Victorian contemporary of Benjamin Disraeli: "Show me the manner in which a nation or community cares for its dead and I will measure with mathematical exactness the tender mercies of its people, their respect for the laws of the land, and their loyalty to high ideals."
Walt, we miss seeing you and Micki, Betty and I have had a tough time the last year with her broken neck, and now she has had a Malignant Mole removed on her back. But the Doc says he believes he caught it in time, we will know in a week. I have been asked if you are giving any workshops this summer, and if so where and when. A few people in this area are interested in attending one put on by you. Hopefully no farther North than Indianapolis. Let me know if you have any planed. Best wishes to the both of you, Jack & Betty Briles jackbriles@aol.com
My wife and I went out in the Hills yesterday to repair a stone for a friend. Without thinking (And having used it for over 5 years) I took my MASTICO along with the little white cup of chemical setting agent. I placed the Mastico in the back and put the white Container on the Dash of my Truck so it wouldn't get lost, 10 minutes after we got there we were getting our pruners and cleaning material out. Suddenly there was a small explosion in my Truck. The smoke was so thick you couldn't see inside. I did not know what had happened. I yanked the door open and got a whiff of the thick smoke and could not breathe. I grabbed the hood release and raised the hood and took Pruners and cut my Ground wire to the battery. (Thinking the worst) The smoke cleared and when I could breathe I looked inside the Truck. The Hardener was up the center of the windshield and up on the sunvisor. The cap was on the seat. Had this happened 20 minutes earlier we no doubt would have wrecked because we would not have been able to breathe or see where I was going. End of story. WARNING, DO NOT PUT THE HARDENER ON THE DASH OF ANYTHING. The temperature caused it to Explode. (I also had to call for a Ground Wire) PLEASE be CAREFUL keep this out of the sun sealed up.
