    2. R. Bruce Wheaton
    3. Hello L A Clugh- Thank you for your comment on my post about the 2-grave Wheaton Cemetery near Portage MI. I thought a post about a restoration project, with a little levity and purpose, might serve as a reminder of why we do what we do. It seems many INPCRP members have gone "Trump" over John Walters and Nyalox (sp?) brushes. I appreciate your recent attempt at calling order. Boy did that ever poke a stick into a hornets nest. I'll try to keep my posts about my Cemetery work, and include points of INPCRP essence. Thanks for all you do- Bruce Wheaton Sent from my iPhone

This cemetery has a large stone stump that has fallen over: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GScid=2371638&GRid=125521257 & . Does anyone have any information about what type of base these types of monument should have? The stone stump is approximately six feet tall and 20 inches in diameter, at the base. For a regular stacked memorial we would bury it six or eight inches in the ground, but the stone stump is carved all the way to the bottom, and it would seem like a waste of that effort to bury any of it. It was on a piece of limestone that settled to one side, which made the monument fall. Since we will have to work on the base anyway, I wanted to make sure the base was the right size and the sand & gravel the right depth. 3. If you want to do it right you should put in a concrete foundation at least 30" deep so that someone doesn't have this same problem 10-20 years down the road. Sand and gravel is fine for a small marker but something this size should be on concrete. My opinion, of course. Kyle D. Conrad Iroquois Valley Monuments In a message dated 11/28/2014 8:39:59 A.M. 3. Try this:   Genealogy Grant Program The Indiana Genealogical Society (IGS) has established the Genealogy Grant Program to support Indiana genealogists and genealogical societies. The Society plans to award a $500 grant each year in three categories, for a total of $1500 annually. The three categories are as follows— 1. Cemetery Restoration Grant : A $500 cash award to an Indiana genealogical or historical society for a project to restore and/or renovate an Indiana pioneer cemetery. 1. Resource Development Grant : A $500 cash award to an Indiana genealogical or historical society for a project to develop a new Indiana genealogical resource in either a printed or electronic format. 1. Chapter Resource Grant : A $500 cash award to an IGS Chapter Society for a project to support the operation of that society.        Societies interested in applying for any of the three grants should visit the IGS website and print out this Genealogy Grant Application Form. The following restrictions apply to all grant categories— 1. All work on the grant project must be completed within twelve months of the grant award. 2. The grantee society must provide a written summary report to the IGS following the project completion. 3. A society may only receive one grant from the Program per grant year, although that society may apply for more than one grant type each year. 4. Applicants must complete all parts of the Application Form. The IGS Board of Directors will evaluate the submitted applications. The Board decision on the grant awards will be final. The application deadline for each grant year is December 31 . Grant approval notifications will be announced following the next IGS Board meeting. Checks will be presented at the IGS Annual Conference. Note: The IGS may elect not to award a grant in a category, if, in the opinion of the IGS Board, a suitable project has not been proposed in that category. Mail completed applications to: IGS Genealogy Grant Program, P.O. Box 10507, Fort Wayne, IN 46852.   ----- Original Message ----- From: "LA Clugh via" <inpcrp@rootsweb.com> To: "E. Thanks for that tip. I have another question to the list. I know some of you have had luck with grants. I have never worked on them. We have new class starting at Purdue this fall and they want to work on grants to help with restoration of Greenbush in Lafayette. I'm guessing here, but there are still about 10 to 12 big trees that need to come out yet. We have had a good year at Greenbush, starting the beginning of restoration and getting Schools involved.
