I sent this directly and should have sent it to the list: Martha is the daughter of Stephen Barns and Margaret (LNU). She was the wife of Alexander Scott who was most likely the son of Arthur Scott. Alexander was probably born in Washington County, Ohio. I have now placed Stephen in Ohio County, (West) Virginia through land grants as early as 1804. Stephen lived on the Ohio River in Monroe County, Ohio from about 1816 or earlier to at least 1825. He lived on the Ohio River in what was then Virginia from about 1807 or earlier to about 1816. Many of his grandchildren were born in Virginia when they clearly lived in Ohio. So I have often wondered if the nearest midwife or doctor lived across the Ohio River in Virginia. I have no idea where the family came from before 1804. Mary Barns Wells says she was born in Maryland (she's the oldest girl). Martha list her birthplace as Virginia. So it's possible Stephen was in Ohio County as early as 1797 but he definitely wasn't there in 1787. Priscilla Barns Landrum (the youngest) says both Stephen and Margaret were born in Kentucky. Other researchers have said, Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. So I'm open to anything. Since there is so much drift over with Barns family members with the Fosters, Virginia - Scotts, Whites, Landrums and so forth, it's possible their connections go back even further than Owen County. So if you would be kind enough to keep your eyes open for Stephen Barns in Halifax County, Virginia as you do your research, I would be very grateful. I know there were Barnses in Halifax County but I have no idea if they are related in any way. Charlotte [email protected]
