Any help with this grandmother will be most appreciated. Thanks for taking a look, Pat Louisa HARTMAN m. 7/30/1846 in Owen County, Indiana - John Storm BEEM/BEAM b. abt 1817. Louisa's father might be Ludvig VON HARTMAN??? My Indiana surnames are: NEWSOM, STORM, DYER, WALL, TRUELOVE, BEEM/BEAM, NEELY, CAIN/CANE. My North Carolina surnames are: NEWSOM, WALL, TRUELOVE (?), BEEM/BEAM, NEELY, CAIN/CANE, BARHAM, GILLIAM.
Not much info on Louisa Hartman other than through her marriage to John Storm Beem and their daughter who married Andrew Newsom (below). This info is from "Owen County Indiana ~a history~ 1994. ANDREW JACKSON NEWSOM, PHARMACIST IN OWEN COUNTY 1870s AND 1880s Andrew J. Newsom (1847-1884) died of pneumonia at his home on N. Montgomery St. in Spencer, Indiana at age 37 and is buried in the Beem Circle at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer. He married Frances Beem, daughter of John Storm Beem and Louisa Hartman on March 15, 1871. Frances Beem's father John Storm Beem (1826-) was the grandson of Captain Daniel Beem born in 1754. Daniel's father was born on board ship migrating from Germany to Philadelphia. The German name was Boehm. Daniel emigrated from North Carolina to Kentucky in 1790 then emigrated to Jackson County, Indiana near Brownstown. In 1817 he moved to Owen County. He built his log cabin where the Riverside Cemetery is now located in Spencer. He laid claim to that land and later had a surveyor layout the town of Spencer. He had three sons: Neely, Enoch, and Levi and three daughters: Rebecca Elizabeth, and Anna. Neely (1788-1835) had two sons: John Storm and Richard. John's daughter Frances married Andrew Newsom. Andrew Newsom was the son of Henry and Loella (Walls) Newsom natives of North Carolina. Henry and Luella married in 1841 in Greene County, Indiana and located there on a farm. Henry's parents were James Byron and Celia Ann Cane. James Byron's father was Jacob from Southampton County, Virginia, Newsoms, Virginia. Andrew graduated from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana and served as a pharmacist in Worthington, Indiana. He then purchased half interest in his father-in-law's business, the firm was known as "Beem and Newsom" and was located on the southwest corner of the square in Spencer. Andrew had seven children: Otis Tilford, Grace, Winifred, Lola E., Nellie B., Earl, and Mayme. My husband is the grandson of Otis Tilford (1872-1951). Ron's father was Wayne Andrew (1901-1963), one of five sons of Otis T. and Buryle Trolove. The other four brothers were named: Frederick Raymond, Don Huston, Paul Beem (died in infancy), and Otis Elmer. There was a daughter named Mary Louise. The other son of Andrew was Earl Jackson "Peck" (1880-1962). He had only one son named Jack Badger (1908-1977). Jack's widow is presently living in Spencer and was the former Virginia White. Jack and Virginia had one son, Jack Ncwsom who presently is a pharmacist in Cloverdale, Indiana and resides in Spencer. He has two sons Erie Tyner and Paul David and a daughter Melisa Louise. Andrew has only 6 Newsom "sons" surviving him as of 1993. All of his son Otis' boys had daughters with the exception of my husband Ronald Wayne, only son of Wayne. Ronald Wayne (1933) lives in Green Lake, Wisconsin and is the Vice President of Development at the American Baptist Conference Center. He has a son Douglas (1961) and Douglas has a son Kyle (1993). Ron's second cousin Jack, and Jack's two boys Erie and Paul comprise the 6 male Newsom descendants of Andrew. Andrew had four brothers and a sister. Andrew's brothers, Alvis Newton, William J., James H., and Charles R. have many male descendants, but that's another story. Submitted by: Marliyn (Logan) Newsom, wife of Ronald Wayne Newsom ========================= end Only other listing for HARTMAN is for a Mattie J. Hartman, daughter of William D. Hartman and Ida Mae Martin, who married Russell H. Hancock in 1915. The writing is about "The Russell H. Hancock Family History". ... that is it! I would be most interested in any information pertaining to the Newsoms or to the Sloughs of Owen Co., IN. Is the book you reference available through the Owen Co. Historical Society or somewhere else that you know of? The information that you gave us regarding Andrew Jackson Newsom was very interesting to me, and has been added to my own family history.
