1. [INOWEN] Let's Get Some List Activity
2. Listmembers: Now that the holiday season is over with, and I trust that everyone had a good one-- let's get back to researching with some good postings to the list. Remember, "we" are the "enquiring minds" that want to know. Lets run a roll call from today January 18, 2002 until next Wednesday January 23, 2002. When making your postings, let them do the most work for you as possible by including the following information: 1.Name of the ancestor you are searching 2.What you are searching for (parents, dob, whatever you are needing ) 3.As many dates and places as possible for identification purposes 4.Any migrations that you are aware of or any children 5.Make separate postings for separate family lines 6.PLEASE DO NOT SEND THESE POSTINGS TO ME (this means don't hit the reply button to this message, make certain to address to the list). 7.Use this format for your subject line: Ancestors Name/Dates/Place OR Info Needed/Ancestors Name/Dates/Place DON'T PLACE "ROLL CALL" or "LIST ACTIVITY" in your subject line, many of those get deleted UNREAD. Answer as many postings as you have information for. ****Finally**** Some persons may have gotten computers for Christmas and are new to the internet or the mailing lists. Please be considerate of these persons as some are making first time postings. FOR THE NEW PEOPLE-- A "roll call" is simply a way of stating "hey, lets get some postings on our list" or "put your queries out there". Good Luck to Everyone Wishing you ancestral searching success, Debbie Jennings Please check websites below: Sweet Owen County IN http://www.angelfire.com/in4/sweetowen/ Franklin CountyVermont Genweb Franklincounty VT Kentuckiana Home http://www.angelfire.com/ky3/kentuckianahome/ Bingham Pages http://www.angelfire.com/vt2/binghampages/ Goss Family http://www.angelfire.com/nc3/gossfamily/ Schuyler Lines http://www.angelfire.com/nj4/schuylerlines/ Lancaster County VA Genweb http://www.rootsweb.com/~valancas/ Jennings Place http://www.angelfire.com/va3/jenningsplace/

1. [INOWEN] Dr. Uriah A.V. Hester and Sarah Ellen Hudson Hester
2. Ann Winans
3. I am looking for this couple. Dr. Uriah A.V. Hester's tombstone gives his dates as 1816-1893 (It's in Owen County). Uriah and Sarah Ellen were married in 1850. I believe Sarah Ellen Hudson was the daughter of John and Sarah Hudson. Did they have any children? When was Sarah E born and when did she die? Where is she buried -- she isn't buried with Dr. Hester. Is any one researching this couple? Thanks for any help. AnnW

1. [INOWEN] Andrew Jackson Gustin/born between 1875 and 1800 possibly in Delaware County
2. Gina A. Gustin
3. Hello, my name is Gina Gustin. I'm fairly new to this list. I joined it because my father was born in Spencer, Indiana in 1916. His name was George Willis Gustin. If anybody knows him, they would probably remember him by the name "Bud." I was hoping that by joining this list, I could obtain some information from people who do genealogy and live local to Owen County. I live in the Washington DC Maryland suburbs, so acquiring certain types of genealogical information is a bit difficult. Last week, I spent a good solid day going through Indiana's 1880 census soundex at the National Archives. I was looking for Andrew Jackson Gustin. I have various birthdates for him, ranging from 1875 to 1879, so if he was born prior to 1880, then he should have shown up in the 1880 census, along with his parents; that is, if he was living in Indiana at the time. My next strategy is to look through the Delaware County population schedules. If I still can't find him, then I'll try the Ohio soundex. His mother was supposedly from Ohio, so it is possible they might have been living there. I requested the marriage certificate of Sarah E. Gustin and William L. Wigner from a genealogical library in Delaware County. Sarah was Andrew's mother and William L. Wigner was Andrew's step father. They were married in 1883. She sent me the marriage certificate, and also the index. I found 2 listings for William Wigner with his parents being a William R. Wigner and a C. Barnhart. He had married again in Nov. 1900, which leads me to believe that Sarah might have died that year. I also have a Census showing them all living in Madison County in 1900. William, "Elizabeth," (I believe this is Sarah "E.") and Andrew Gustin, age 24 (which makes his birth year about 1875) month: October. The thing that is curious is, in the Delaware marriage index, there is also a listing, possibly on the same date as the marriage between Sarah E. Gustin and William L. Wigner) a marriage for a Sarah J. Gustin. (I think it was J. -- I can't locate the paper at the moment.) It lists her parents as Sarah Gerrard and "Richard" (no last name given). So, one would assume that Richard's last name was Gustin. Just above that listing is a listing for a Joesph H (I think) Gustin, who's parents are Andrew (Gustin) and Sarah (Maiden name: Gerard). I can't be certain of either of the dates of Sarah J. or Joseph H. cuz the copy was barely legible, but the date of the marriage of Sarah J. looked like May 22 1883 (the same date as the Sarah E. Gustin/William L. Wigner marriage. I have found listings here and there for a marriage between Andrew Gustin and a Sarah Gerard/Gerrard. So... this is all very confusing. What I am attempting to find, but can't, is a family unit of an Andrew J. or A. J. Gustin, married to a Sarah (maiden name: Whitaker), with a son named Andrew Jackson, who was born between 1875 and 1879. This is the information that I am told appears on Andrew Jackson's marriage license. I still have to acquire a copy of his marriage license. So there you go. Unfortunately, not much of this actually has anything to do with Owen County, most of the stuff I'm trying to find is elsewhere (Delaware, Madison, and/or possibly Ohio). This is one of my brickwalls. Other families that I am researching, that do have roots in Owen County are: Carpenter, Ooley, Matkins, Hogan (another brick wall, but we'll get to that later - one brick wall at a time). --Gina Gustin
