Even Quakers (my Huddlestons in Union Co) ran Inns. If a large house was on a well traveled road it would make sense that people would need to rest, eat, and board their horse for the night. Usually, the family quarters were upstairs and the guests stayed downstairs. This is not a tavern like we think of today. The tavern would be the modern "bed and breakfast" :>) Suzanne
