Owen County (IN) Democrat, Oct 17, 1907, p. 1. FATAL ACCIDENT John Farmer, a young man age 17 years, received injuries (illegible word) riding on a freight train at (illegible word) last Thursday morning about (illegible word) which resulted in his death a few hours afterwards. He boarded the train as it was going to the water tank and was walking over the "running" board of the tender when the water splashed on him and he jumped to the left and his left leg was caught and horribly crushed and mangled from his hip to his knee, by the car couplers. He was very plucky and did not complain although the pain must have been very great. He did not rally from the shock and died at 5 o'clock. His parents are farmers and live near Stinesville. His sisters, Misses Nida and Eva Farmer, of Indianapolis, and Martha Farmer, of Ellettsville, and brother, from Bloomington, were at once summoned. He was a favorite brother and was loved by all. The remains were interrred in Mt. Carmel Cemtery Friday afternoon.
