He married Sarah Catherine Medaris 12/31/1876 in Owen Co. (though I have been told the records reflect a Feb. date, the Dec. date is from the family bible). I do not know Ruben's father's or mother's name. His birthplace was reported to be Ohio. His sibling's names included Mary Ann, Robert, and Sophia. I have found the name Spear in the 1870 census index several times but do not which family is his or even if any of these are. He was certainly old enough to be in Owen County without his family as his birthdate is 9/30/1848 (28 at time of marriage).
