She united with the M. E. Church of this place under the pastorage of Rev. Merideth at the age of eleven years. She spent the able years of her life working in the church. Although interested in the church and its different organizations of the late years, she was kept away on account of poor health. She was united in marriage to Jas. Wood on February 7, 1862 and to this union seven children were born, four whom, with the father, preceded her in death. She hath lived her allotted three score and ten years and has witnessed the perils and distress of three wars, Civil, Spanish and World Wars. She helped to rear four families of children; her doors have been opened to all and her ministering to the sick has been unequaled. She was cheerful and hopeful, looking ever at the brightest side of life's surroundings. Even in the darkest hours, when her body was racked with pain, there was a cheerfulness so that there seemed to be "sunshine in her soul," that could speak of death as "becoming well." She leaves to mourn their loss one brother, three children, thirty grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and one great great grandchild. " I cannot say, I will not say, that she is dead - - she is just away! With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand, She has wandered into an unknown land. Albert IMHAUSEN married Melissa Elizabeth BERRY in 1886. Albert was born in Hausen, Germany in 1857. Worked his way over to the U.S. in 1878 to avoid compulsory military service. After being in New York for a short time, he came on to Stinesville. He became a naturalized citizen in 1884. None of his family ever followed him to the U.S. Mr. Imhausen was a brick and stone mason and worked on the Monroe County courthouse and several of the buildings on the Indiana University campus. He also built the large smoke stack at the Hoadley mill in Stinesville. He married Melissa Berry in 1886 and they settled on a small farm near the "Kelly Cut" in Bean Blossom Township. In 1902 the moved to Gosport for residency where Mr. Imhausen lived until his death in 1934. Mr. Imhausen was injured in an automobile accident in 1923 and was an invalid for eleven years before his death. He was an active worker in the Old Dutch Church. The Imhausen children are: Henry, Charles, Albert, Ira, Roy, Beulah, and Ida (Mrs.Lyman D. Smith).
Sarah MAY married Nathan Wood on July 19, 1860. She was born abt 1839 and is the daughter of Charles G. May and Mary A. May. Charles' occupation is listed as schoolteacher. Both parents are shown as being born in Virginia.
Malinda COFFEY (b. 21 Jan 1870 in Indiana; d. Jan 1946 in Adel, Iowa) was the daughter of William A. COFFEY and Mary Amanda FRANKLIN. William and Mary were married on Dec. 20, 1866 in Owen Co. That's all that I know about this line.

I would like to caution those of you who are out of state. The GNIS listings for cemeteries or whatever are great but there are some listings that are much in error as to the locations. Such as cemeteries or churches that I know to be in Morgan county are listed in Owen or vice versa. Debbie Jennings debj@comsys.net "Following the footprints through time"
Dear Seekers: I have found the TOPO Map to be of great help in locating/finding those "out of the way places with strange sounding names", and others things like little towns, 'sometimes' cemeteries can be found, etc.: following is the website for it: http://www.topozone.com/ It is easy to use, just fill in the blank - can zoom in, out, enlarge, etc. Another very comprehensive map website for the U.S. and many areas of the world is: http://www.lib.utexas.edu/Libs/PCL/Map_collection/map_sites/hist_sites.html Good hunting - good luck! Have a great week ahead! Shirley: bobert@panacom.com
Nathan WOOD is found in the 1850 census as the son of John and Martha Wood and is aged 13. Do not know where he was born. He married Sarah A. MAY on July 19, 1860 in Indiana. Nathan served in the Civil War and I have copies of his discharge and pension papers. Sarah and Nathan had the following children: Emmet Ezra (my ggrandfather), Otis, Charlies, Estel, Molly Isom, Dorie Parish, Luly Sims. Emmet (b.1868 - d. 1954) married Malinda L. COFFEY (b.1870 - d.1948). They had nine children: Ulie Forice (my grandfather), Felix Hurbert, William Russel, Mary Amanda, Raymond, Howard, Gladis, Henry Mason, Woodrow. I believe Emmet and Malinda moved to Adel, IOWA
Dear Dick, I read with interest your listing of Owen County cemeteries. I visited the graves of my Arthur (Arter) line with my uncle a few years ago. He called the site the "Fish Creek Cemetery". I have video of the gravestones which were 'buried' in long grass at the end of a dirt lane. I am wondering if it has another name and is, in fact, included in your listing. I am sure I could get more specific information if it is not on your list. I enjoy seeing your contributions to the list. Pam
Pam, The same web site I found the cemetery listings on also allows you to pull up other Geographical details. Among them are churches, lakes, populated places and streams. Fish Creek (a stream, officially) is listed as being on the "USGS 7.5" map titled 'Arney' as is the town of Arney and Antioch Church. It will be somewhere in that area (probably). If you can locate it on a map, let me have the details. If you don't have a good map of the area try this web site. More than likely the USGS does not have all of the cemetery sites listed. Esp. those not being regularly cared for or known by other names. Fish Creek it self is NW of Freedom a mile or two, runs to the north. Arney is about 4 mi. west of Freedom (according to my map source) and a little north. ""Keep in mind that the town name on the listings I posted is actually the map name from the USGS for their 7.5 In maps, and might differ from common usage."" http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?lat=39.2186&lon=-86.9317 Map target is 39.2186ºN, 86.9317ºW - UTM Zone 16, N 4340828, E 505896 Exact center of display is UTM Zone 16, N 4341876, E 505968 FYI, if you aren't aware of it, There is a cemetery listed by the USGS that is named Arthur. Latitude 39.0811N Longitude 086.4740W. Its in Greene County not to far from Freedom. I am searching for the family of Mathew Cummin(g)s both ancestors and descendants. Mathew Cummings, Jr. was born July 6, 1777, in Halifax County, VA. He was the son of Mathew Cummin(g)s, Sr. and Elizabeth Vance (?). Although the exact date and place of the birth of Mathew Cummings, Sr. have not been documented, most people list his date of birth about 1750 and the location of his birth as Halifax County, Virginia or Pennsylvania. Some people believe he was born and lived in Pennsylvania until he was a young man. It is also believed that he married in Pennsylvania. Some others feel that he was born in Halifax County, Virginia. Mathew, Sr. joined the American Army and fought in the Revolutionary War. In the mid 1780's Mathew, Sr., along with his family, settled in Anderson County, KY, and was one of the early settlers there. It is believed that Mathew, Jr. moved along with other members of their family to Owen County, Indiana, sometime after 1830. It would not have been any earlier than that as most estimates of the date and place of the birth of the brothers and sisters of Mathew, Jr. indicate they were born in Virginia or Kentucky. Mathew, Jr. was first married to Martha Askren (possibly the daughter of John Askren) in Washington County, KY, December 26, 1809. Sometime while their daughter, Elizabeth, was yet just a baby, and before 1831, Martha Askren Cummings died, leaving Mathew, Jr. with several minor children. Apparently Martha's children stood in line for some inheritance which came from her family which was still in Kentucky. Court Records from Owen County provide Guardianship papers which name the oldest son, William as guardian, at least of Sanford. It is not clear why the son was appointed guardian and not the father of the children. On March 2, 1837, Mathew, Jr. married for the second time, taking as his bride, Anna Christeena Hauser. Five more children were born of this marriage. Mathew, Jr. died, October 8, 1865. Sometime in the mid 1850's Mathew, Jr. and Anna moved, along with his son, Sanford, and his wife, Demaris Mason, to Johnson County, MO. Sanford, the son of Mathew, Jr. and Martha Askrin, was born 1818 in Kentucky (possibly Anderson County). He married Demaris Mason in Owen County in 1839. I have not been able to find the family of Demaris Mason. The family story says that her father walked out on Sanford and Demaris when he discovered they had named their newborn son, Jefferson Davis Cummings. It seems Mr. Mason must have been a true Yankee. I would love to exchange information with anyone who might also be looking for members of this family. Lorna Runyan Mullins Carrollton, TX
The following web site http://www-nmd.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html can provide all sorts of data, (Lost it yesterday and just tracked it down again), including the cemetery list. Leastwise those known about by the USGS. Dick Smith Biggers and more dws@cet.com
