> >.. 2 Josephus Turpin 1839 - >...... +Susan J. Martindale 1843 - N.J. Would you happen to have anything further on the MARTINDALE family. I'm interested in a David or Daniel WARD who married 2 Nov 1820 in Wayne Co IN to Rachel MARTINDALE. Rachel is the daughter of a Moses MARTINDALE m1 Hannah JONES 1797 who came to OH about 1803. Info shared by a BENSON researcher says Moses descends from William(3), William (2), John (1) I'm interested in further identifying this David/Daniel WARD husband of Rachel MARTINDALE. Just hoping that another collateral has more. Happy to share a snail address for the MARTINDALE researcher if this is of interest, Margaret's not online. She descends from Martha a daughter of James MARTINDALE, brother to Moses. Martha m Samuel BENSON. The BENSONs were in Warren Co IN by 1833. Tom Tom & Carolyn WARD P.O. In 1860 Knight Lappin and family were located in the Eastern Division. Could someone tell me where this is? Also is there a historical society there that I could visit in a couple of weeks to try and find some record of his family passing through there? Thanks a lot. I'm doing research on the family of James TURPIN b. ca1798 d. 1880 m. Elizabeth NEWTON b. ca1800 VA. m. 4 Oct 1820 Garrard Co.KY. Woodford TURPIN was the bondsman {James bro} and his father signed {Hugh TURPIN} and her mother Nancy. I also have found a marriage record for his father Hugh TURPIN & Elizabath ISON . I would like to find out more information on Hugh & Elizabeth TURPIN and James other siblings....believe that he had a bro named William as well, but don't know of any other siblings....as I have a copy of a Will abstract for Hugh......I later after the death of Hugh found that his wife and some family migrated to Sangamon Co.IL. My James was a noted chairmaker in Greene Co.IN. a trade that he passed on to his sons as well. They lived in the Beech Creek Twp. having close ties to Owen and Monroe Co. as well. I am desc. through their daughter Nancy G. TURPIN m. James V. LIVINGSTON. Anyone with information on this line, I would like to exchange family info with. A tombstone that is in the Palestine Christian Cemetery (across from Vandalia in Owen County) reads as follows: Mary Alice, dau. of L.H. & M.A. Criss, Born Jan. 29, 1873 Died May 28 1873 I am guessing that she is a grandchild of Henry Criss who died at age 53 in 1877. Dear Laura, Don't have the information you are requesting. However, I have a Criss family related to my Robinson family. Is the family you are researching by any chance connected to mine? I'm looking at a Thomas T.Criss married to a Sarah Elizabeth Robinson. Thos was born ca 1840, no date of death. Sarah Elizabeth Robinson's dates are 1842-1895. I have a pension application for Sarah Elizabeth's brother, John Reuben Robinson which states that John Reuben Robinson lived with the Criss family and was nursed by Thomas T. Criss. The family probably lived in/near Gosport at this time. The pension application was ultimately rejected so I'm not sure which part the govt didn't believe. Hope your request gets you an answer. If you have anything on a Thomas Criss family, please let me know. Thanks. Judy Weisberg, Columbus, OH >
The entry in the tombstone transcriptions book shows: Nancy Lovina Criss, daughter of J & W, died Sept. 18, 1859, aged 1 year, 22 days. Buried in Vandalia Methodist Cemetery, Owen County. I can't match up this baby to any of the Criss men whose names started with J. None of them, at least to my knowledge, had a wife whose name began with "W". Does anyone know if this is a typo, and if so, whose daughter she was? Laura E. I have a document that was filed after William Criss (1800-1862) died in Vandalia, Owen County - his wife was Nancy France. I cannot make out some of the names of the grandchildren. Here is what it says, leading into where I am having problems: ..Shared by the following sons and daughters and grand children _____(word unreadable) Henry Criss son, Susanna Long, daughter, Levi Criss, son, Phebe B___y, daughter, Matilda Shaley(?) daughter, John C. Criss, Permelia A. Criss the 2 last having Levi Criss for Guardian children of said Wm. deceased Mary A(nn) Johnson daughter of said Wm deceased died leaving one Permelia June Johnson having Anthony E. Johnson guardian and John Williams is Guard of the following grand children of said William Criss deceased John W., Sarah E., Daul (??) W. (?), Melissa J. (?), Nelson (?) A., Caroline H.(?), Elweena (???), and Laura B. Criss, Infants of James Criss deceased who was son of Wm Criss deceased, making 9 shares in all. {I only count 8} So my biggest problems are with the children of James Criss and his wife Rachel Jane Williams. James died sometime in 1862 in Memphis. If someone else knows these names, the handwriting may start to make sense. Thanks! Laura E. William & Charity and John and Maggie are all buried in Sink Cemetery in Clay Co. Some other names on this site are Mishler, Burger, Everwine, Hoschstetler, Gonser, Cooprider, Everwine Family site: John and Barbara Persinger Everwine and all connecting lines. John was born in Germany and came here as a young boy. Barbara was born in Morgan County to David and Christeny Persinger, who lived in the Bowling Green area, where they lived until they died. They are buried in the Killion Cemetery according to death certificates. Barbara and John are buried in Sink Cemetery. Their daughter Maggie Everwine Willis Summerlot is my grandmother. Some other lines on this site are Cunningham, Haltom, Daves, Summerlot, Cooprider, Hochstetler, Gonser, McCreery Family site: Burton Milligan and Mary Alice Spear McCreery and all connecting lines. You must agree to "share" with us, and be connected to the lines in some way. Other than that, you just enjoy what others have so kindly shared with all of us. P. S on previous message. I just saw the name Miller. I have talked to Glen Millers ( orchester leader born in Clarinda, Iowa) son and he sent me a ton of info on Miller name. Maybe I could be some help on that line. Larry
Saw your Crabb name and wondered if you had any relatives in Clarinda, Iowa. My wifes' grandfather, Cole, William Aurther, died young and her grandmother married a Crabb- John M.- that is all the info I have on my computer. He probably was born around 1870. We have some old photos of them somewhere. Larry Hansen
Listmembers: I would like to announce a new and private website that has been created by my father and myself for the specific purpose of research of the RATT surname. The name of the webpage is: RATTS AND COLLATERAL LINES This will encompass the lines marrying into the Ratts line also. To name a few, CARTER, GOSS,SECREST,SHULER,WARTHEN,WORKMAN,WINKLER This website is private and accessible through an invitation and password only. Any and all info on the page stays on the page and is not for the viewing of just anyone surfing the internet. This page gives us the capabilities to add photos, documents, bios, records, family trees (which although others on the page can view) only YOU can change. Since, however there are preset unchangeable categories we have altered them to fit our needs to have a place to put the data most helpful in our research. If you are interested in an invitation to this site just email either me or my father who is at rcar37@prodigy.net. When you get into the site I would like everyone to thoroughly look at all the areas. Especially the entry on Welcome and Best Use of this Page. There is not alot on the page yet as it was just started last night. This is a webpage requiring EVERYONE to exchange info, this is not just a page for me to enter data. It is a sharing place. Hello, My GG-Grandparents, William S Norris (b. July 18, 1833; d. June 3, 1895) and his wife Charity Reed Norris (b. February 25, 1835; d. November 7, 1906), are buried in the cemetery just NE of the school in Patricksburg. My information has come from the gravestone and the following obituary (publication unknown, the article belonged to my grandmother): "On Nov. 7, 1906. at 9 p.m., at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Samuel Chambers, near Patricksburg, Ind., Charity Norris was called from time to eternity. She had been a great sufferer for a number of years with throat and lung trouble, complicated with heart trouble. About two years before her death, when she was very low from affliction, she stated in the presence of the writer that she was trying to be perfectly resigned, as no doubt she was at all times. She was the third and youngest daughter of William and Catharine (Reed) Norris, born in Coshocton county, Ohio, near Bakersville, Feb. 25, 1836. She was married to William S. Norris, March 27, 1855. To this union were born ten children, George W., Mary E. Moseman, Catharine A. Beatty, Laura E. Dayhuff, Eva S. Chambers and Samuel W., living. Four children preceding the parents in death were: John, Thomas, Martha, and William, all dying in infancy. She, with her husband, migrated from Ohio to Owen county, Indiana in the fall of 1862. Her husband departed this life June 3,1895. She was left without a mother when she was three years of age, her father having died in the summer of 1874. She leaves one aged sister and a half brother in Ohio, three brothers and one sister having preceded her in death. She joined the M.E. church when she was thirteen years of age. On coming to Indiana she placed her membership at Patricksburg, where has always endeavored to live the life of a true christain, devoted mother and companion. Funeral services were conducted at Patricksburg by Rev. Krieble, of the U.B. church, and Rev Hargrave, of the M.E. church, Nov. 9, 1906." If this article does not contain a typo, then the couple, prior to marriage, shared the same last name. This could cause some confusion. I'm not sure of the proximity of Coshocton to Tuscarawas Co. I haven't really scratched the surface on this line yet. Hope this may provide some sort of help. Today we drove to Vandalia Methodist Cemetery, Palestine (?) across the highway from Vandalia Methodist, and Mt. Carmel Cemetery. At Palestine we saw a snake. Not what I expected to encounter in a cemetery. But, here is my question. We had never been to Mt. Carmel, so expected to perhaps see church ruins. Was the church at one time in front of where all the tombstones begin? Does anyone know what denomination Mt. Carmel would have been - Methodist, Baptist, etc?? My husband's great-grandfather is buried there, and he has an interesting old tombstone - looks like a tree trunk and branches, with a stone carver's mallet attached to it, as that was his trade. Brad I apologize for not sending you the Duling info. I need to fix something and I never seem to get around to it. Will try to do before heading to Iowa. Can you give me mailing address again. I'm getting very forgetful in my old age. Daughter of Leanard Duling lives in Audubon and will try and talk to her. Larry
