WOOD DIES SUDDENLY Charles F. Wood, 58 years old of Indianapolis died suddenly Friday morning while sitting in a chair in a downtown store. He had been suffering from heart disease for some time. Several years ago he married Miss Ida Franklin, of Spencer, daughter of the late Judge W. M. Franklin and a sister of Mrs. N.D. Cox. He is survived by the widow, a daughter, Mrs. E.L. Beggs, of Indianapolis, his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Wood, of St. Louis, a sister, Mrs. Grace Barnes, of St. Louis, a brother, Maxwell Wood, of St. Louis. He was a member of the Masons and Elks at Terre Haute, where he formerly lived. The remains were brought to Spencer Sunday and brief services were held at Riverside Cemetery where interment was made.

Mr. Woods had two of his ribs on his left side broken and Miss Woods had her left arm broken and wrist dis-located. Mr. Woods resides about one and half miles south of Vandalia and when he and his daughter were near Vandalia the horse became frightened and ran away. The buggy turned over and threw them to the side of the road, a distance of several feet. As the horse was running at a terrific speed and the road being rough it is a wonder that they escaped with their lives. The buggy was badly damaged, but the horse was unhurt.

LYCURGUS WOOD DEAD Word was received here last week of the death of Mrs. Lycurgus Wood, of Victor, Colorado. Her husband was at one time sheriff of Owen County and they lived near Chambersville. Many of the older citizens will remember Mrs. Wood and be pained to learn of her sudden death. She was killed in a runaway while on her way to attend the funeral of a friend, being thrown out of the carriage and injured to such extent that her death followed in a very short time. She was hurt internally, her left arm was broken and her face bruised. She was about sixty years old at her death.

OBIT: 5 Oct. 1893, from O.D." "SAMUEL NORRIS" Samuel Norris, was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, Feb. 5th 1825. He was married to Keziah Duling Jan. 14th 1844. Eight children were the fruit of this union, five of whom had preceded their father to the Spirit land. The remaining three, with their widowed mother, are left to mourn. Bro. Norris united with the M. E. church in his 19th year and from thence lived a quiet, consistent life. His remains were conveyed to the M. E. church in Freedom where appropriate services were held, after which he was followed by a large procession of relatives, friends and neighbors to the Hix cemetery, where he was laid away by the order of Free and Accepted Masons, to await the resurraction morn. Of the order he had been a member for many years. He was an honest man, a citizen beloved, an obliging neighbor and a faithful husband. W.S. McCallister.

    3. Enough already, Wayne County, IN is straight east of Ind'y on US70, it borders on the Ohio state line. Wayne County, Iowa is south southeast of Des Moines, on the MO. state line. There are also Wayne Counties in Georgia, Illinois (a little south of east from ST. Louis, MO. about 70 miles, US64 cuts across the bottom of the county), KY, Michigan and others. Sorry about being a grouch, still wound up from listening to the bean counter at work. Of course my Nat'l Geo Atlas could be wrong. Incidentally, several state and genealogy sites have a link to a online map display that is about worthless, but one that I like is www.topozone.com.
