Dear Dick, I'm thrilled you are posting to the list. As you know, I was your source of the Longsdorf letter from Shirley Henderson. I possessed the letter for 10+ years. I simply did not make the connection(s) you did and would have missed a great opportunity to help someone else. I guess when my Aunt Doris gave me a copy....hence to you.....etc., etc. Wonderful! None of us could foresee its destination(s). I sure am happy to be among your cousins. Let's keep communicating to one and all. Pam
Hello Fellow Listmembers I am searching for any information regarding an Anna E. Workman who lived in and around the Rowan County NC area about 1795. She married Ephraim Goss on March 23,1795 in Rowan county NC. They migrated to Washington county IN about 1810 and then on to Owen county IN in 1818. Anna died there on Sept 19, 1854. This couple had 10 children and I would be interested in sharing any data. I am trying however to locate who her parents were or at least eliminate any Workman/Wortman in the 1790 Rowan county NC census. ===== Debra Jennings debbiej_2001@yahoo.com "Following the footprints through time" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I am interested in two different marriages of a John McCullough. Either of which may possibly be of my lineage. Both of these marriages took place in PA in the late 1700's. 1. John McCULLOUGH to Margaret PETERS on November 6 1772 2. John McCULLOUGH to Jennet MORRISON on August 17 1771. Does anyone have either of these couples in their lineages, that I might be able to confirm or eliminate them from my lineage. I beleive they were both in the York or Lancaster county area. Thank you ===== Debra Jennings debbiej_2001@yahoo.com "Following the footprints through time" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Messenger - Talk while you surf! I have an ancestor James BALDON/BOLDON who was born in Maryland and then migrated with his parents to Nelson county KY. As an adult he migrated to Owen county IN. He became a Justice of the Peace there in the May 1834 session and performed many acts associated with the office, such as marriages, wills, being admin for wills, doing estate sales, etc. He also was one of the founding fathers of the Little Mount Baptist Church donating land for the building from his own property and also for the Old section of the Little Mount Cemetery. He had massive land holdings from just south of the Putnam county line extending to the Little Mount Church in Wayne twp. In the natural course of time he married(twice) his first wife Hannah TRUAX dying in 1834. He remarried to Matilda NUTTERFIELD after this. Now I am wondering why a man who played various roles in the beginning politics of a county would just "vanished" somewhere between the 1850 and 1860 census. There is no record, church record, burial, will on this man. Seems he would have joined another church or at the very least had a will. The book of History on Owen county states he died "about 1878". Does anyone have any records on this man?? ===== Debra Jennings debbiej_2001@yahoo.com "Following the footprints through time" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! I am researching the following family lines in the Owen county area. I am more then willing to exchange info on any of these lines listed. 1) John CARTER born 1-2-1813 died 2-27-1901 married 1st Eliza NUTTERFIELD (daughter of George); married 2nd Ann SINCLAIR. John and Eliza had 13 children. I descend from: 1) son-Calvin born 8-24-1835 died 9-22-1865 he married Rosella BALDON (daughter of McKinney). Their daughter Elizabeth Jane Carter born 3-3-1855 married John TRUAX(son of James TRUAX & Arlitta (CHAMBERS).Elizabeth Jane (Carter) & John Truax are my 3rd great grandparents. As luck would have it the father of Rosella BALDON is also my 5th great grandfather through other connections. 2) son-Morris born 7-26-1851 died 3-9-1934 he married Susan Mary DUNCAN (b. 10-12-1856) on 10- 15-1873 3) son-Ludwell born 4-3-1837 he married Mary Mahala McCullough (daughter of Wm.). They were married 10-28-1858. His wife was the granddaughter of my 6th great grandfather, which although doesn't make her my 4th great grandmother as I descend directly through one of her aunts in another line. As you can see, any hit on this line will reap benefits. John born in 1813 was also known to have a brother named Jobe who was born in about 1810, he was listed as deaf and dumb on census. John and family was known to have lived in the Owen county area just north of Quincy until about 1870 at which time they moved to Putnam county. ===== Debra Jennings debbiej_2001@yahoo.com "Following the footprints through time" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Jesse and Sarah were married 4-25-1839 in I believe Union county IN. They were the parents of 10 children. These children tie into various Owen county surnames. 1. Elijah born 1840 married Christina SHOPPELL. 2. William born 1841 married Mary KELLY 3. James born 1846 (no info) 4. Thomas born 1847 (mentioned in detail below) 5. He married Harriet Elizabeth SWEENEY (b.11-19-1855 d. 12-12-1918).She was the daughter of John G & Rutha (BRADSHAW) SWEENEY. Thomas and Harriet were the parents of 13 children. I descend in one way or another through 3 of them. 2) son-Anderson born 3-13-1857 died 7-17-1927.He married Frances Catherine Knipe (daughter of John W & Eva (JOB) KNIPE.) Frances is the niece of Susannah Knipe who married John KNOLL (of course another line of mine). I realize this is a lengthy post. But I also realize there were 3 Jesse Jones in Owen county about the same time frame and they all married a Sarah. I am hoping by providing the details above I might zero in on my Jesse and Sarah. ===== Debra Jennings debbiej_2001@yahoo.com "Following the footprints through time" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Listmembers: I almost forgot.. regarding this current ROLL CALL, I know I advised for you to answer as many as possible that you can. But, let's please refrain from answering a post, to only say: "I don't know anything on this line" or "Sorry not my line" It is most disheartening to see an answer to your query in the subject lines, only to find out that person has nothing. Not a possible, just nothing. Answer as many as you possibly can, THAT YOU HAVE INFO ON. Thanks and good hunting ===== Debra Jennings debbiej_2001@yahoo.com "Following the footprints through time" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Let's have a ROLL CALL, beginning now(10-26) and ending SUNDAY night( 10-29) at midnight. PLEASE SEND THESE TO THE LIST, not to me personally!! PLEASE include the names, dates and place for the ancestor you are hunting IN THE SUBJECT LINE, and give more information about your ancestors - including dates and migration and spouses' surnames - in the message part of your post, so that you can get maximum benefit from this roll call. Please assist with any of the ROLL CALL posts that you possibly can - if we all focus together these next few days, we can maximize our efforts for the benefit of all of us. To make your query work harder for you... keep in mind the old rules of news reporting and include as many of the following as possible: SUBJECT FIELD: To get the most from your query and make your query command attention, place the SURNAME, LOCATION, YEAR in the subject field. Remember ! ! ! ! Many subscribers belong to multiple mailing lists; therefore, many go through their mail looking at subject fields... only reading those that have descriptive subject names. Unfortunately, messages entitled "Question", "Help", "IMPORTANT!", "My Family", "My Line", "My Grandfather", etc., are deleted without ever being opened. WHO: State the names of people as completely as you can. WHAT: Try to limit your query to one or two specific questions or bits of information. Post other queries with additional questions rather than load all your questions into one query. In this way, each of your questions will stand out and get attention. WHEN: Dates are important, if you don't know the day, month and year try to put in a period (1790s, late 1800s etc.) WHERE: Mention the location of events (birth, marriage, death, etc.) in the body of the query. Include their migration path if you can. WHY: Why are you searching for this(these) individual(s)? Describe your connection to him/her. HOW: How your query appears will often get subscriber's attention. Check spelling, grammar and format. Apply the KISS system: Keep It Simple Simple. REPETITION: Once you have an acceptable looking query, save it and update it as necessary. Use it again about once about bi-weekly to touch base with new members. Also, you may use it on web sites that accepts queries. REMEMBER: Your goal is to get information. A list server (discussion group), such as this, is an excellent forum for helping you get that information. Make your query work! By following these recommendations, your query stands a better chance of being read and you may make that great contact that you need. ===== Debra Jennings debbiej_2001@yahoo.com "Following the footprints through time" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Listmembers: I encourage everyone to post to the list on any material regarding the researching of your lines. This is why I have the settings for the replies to go to the list. The only posting that I think is unnecesssary to go to the list are the PERSONAL postings, such as the chitchat or the "me too" or "lets get together Friday for coffee and discuss this". These types of postings of course, are of no interest to anyone except the two persons concerned. But, any "finds" are of interest to someone out there on the list and this is the purpose of the list. After all, this is a mailing list for the posting and exchange of genealogy, be it data or tips in how to find something. It isn't a club for who can accumulate the most secrets from each other.
