    1. Re: [INOWEN] Nicknames
    2. About nicknames....no they don't have to match the given names....not even today. I had a cousin who passed away this year and his name was Grafton Hardey and his nickname was Bert...go figure. I know how he got the nickname, but if you didn't, you wouldn't ever associate the two together as being the same person. Tooties also seems to be a common nickname even now. Hubby has a cousin who goes by Tooties even today. I never have asked her where she came up with that one....LOL, I guess I should. Hugs, Cheryl

    1. [INOWEN] HUDSON (Hutson) Family in Spencer before 1850
    2. Ann Winans
    3. Hello, I'm new to this list and am looking for the parents of William R. Hudson, Isaac Hudson and Lucinda Hudson Couchman. The brothers and sister, along with others, left Owen County before 1850 and went to Cherokee County, TX and then to Ellis Cty, TX. They were members of the Presbyterian Church in Spencer. The father may have been named John but I have no proven link to him. Do any of you have any further information on this family? Thanks, Ann

    3. I believe you can get a death certificate from the State if Indiana but you do need to know date and place. 3. Pam -- Good luck! My uncle married a woman named Kathleen, who was known to everyone as "Tootie". Her sister's nickname was Babe: I forget what her real name was, but it was in no way related to her nickname. My Uncle Jack and Aunt Tootie named their kids Marilee (who went by Mimi), John (who went by Buddy), and Tim (who went by Duffy). Maybe it was only in the OLD days that nicknames made sense, in terms of their relation to the given name? I guess you'd have to try to find the people on the census, and see what the parents gave the census takers as the children's names.
