    3. Larry When you go to the Sweet Owen webpage, then go to the History section. Click where it says, "View History" and then on the next page to the upper right there is a box that says,"Select Category", click on the arrow next to that and choose "Owen county Burials". This will allow all the owen county cemeteries to be listed. Click on the one you want to view. 1. [INOWEN] Wm.BOLDON m. Temperance BUSH 1828
    2. I'm trying to find any information on Wm.BOLDON b. Temperance BUSH 6 Mar 1828 in Owen Co.IN.....I believe that they were living in Owen Co. as I found a Wm.BOLDON listed there, but I have no info on them after that time frame... There are several BOLDON / BALDWIN families living in Owen Co. by 1830 census....trying to see if this Wm. might be connected to them....They migrated from Nelson Co.KY to Owen Co......Their father being Thomas BOLDON / BALDWIN b. ca1770 MD. There are several BUSH families living on Owen Co., but only one on the 1820 census....Thomas BUSH and his wife Hannah.....think that they had a son Richard and possibly Temperance might have been their daughter?? Thinking that they might have moved to a neighboring county and hoping that someone reading this will have some info on them. If anyone has anything on these lines, please contact me. Thanks so much, N.J.Skinner White in MI. vwhite0901@aol.com

    3. Norma, Thank you for asking! The information on Lewis and Anna (Ooley) Johnson was taken from notes given to me by my aunt about 10 years ago. I have since found other information that contradicted the children of Lewis and Anna. I had just not entered the change into my database! arghhhh. The Artemist that my aunt mentioned was in error and we later discovered this problem. So... forget that I mentioned it! Lewis and Anna had two daughters: Sarah Ann Johnson and Eliza Ann Johnson By the way, I am sending this to the mail list in case others have been following the dialogue. The book "Fact and Folklore of Owen County" was written by Dixie Kline. She was living in Spencer, Indiana and, I assume, still is. The book was published by Western Sun Printing Company, Bloomington, In. I purchased the book about 10 years ago and have no idea if it is still available. I will try to call Dixie to see if I can get some information on where we might get copies. I'll let you know. Sorry for the confusion. 3. My ggrandfather, James Monroe MCCOLLUM was residing with a George W BROWN in April 1911, at R R 4, Gosport IN., for a short period of time. I suspect Mr. BROWN may have been a relative, probably through marriage. James had a sister, Martha MCCOLLUM that I have been unable to find anywhere. Could she be the wife of George BROWN? I have no information on James and Martha's mother. If anyone can furnish the maiden name of George BROWN's wife, or the relationship between him and my ggrandfather , I would certainly appreciate it. James MCCOLLUM was born 4-15-1841 in SC, so Martha is probably in the 1835-1850 birth date bracket. Bob McCollum in NM

    3. cj I don't know exactly what you mean by "the hard copies" and any searching you would be doing for any of these persons would be in the county that those events occurred in be it birth, death, marriage. Any marriages occurring in IN prior to 1850 can be found at the IN state library website. http://www.statelib.lib.in.us/www/indiana/genealogy/mirr.html Any cemetery records would be kept either in the library of the state where that cemetery is, or in the county or the cemetery itself. In asking for anyone to do any lookups on those persons, I would suspect that you would need to get a little specific in your needs. Most records were handled on a county basis. Someone having census records, might not have something else. Debbie Jennings debbiej@iquest.net "Following the footprints through time" Researching in IN,KY,TN,NC,PA,NJ,VT,NY,MA,MD, VA,CAN,GER,ENG

    3. Carolyn, Thanks for writing. I'm so sorry to disappoint you, but my Doris Williams Longsdorf married John Gorgas Longsdorf from Reading, Pennsylvania (born 1897). He was quite a wanderer having served in the merchant marines on a steam ship near Alaska and Russia about the time Doris was born. He also 'canoed' down the Mississippi to New Orleans with a buddy when he was about sixteen. He was about fifteen years older than Doris and married her in 1937 after a first failed marriage. He had two daughters from his first marriage and one son, John Arthur Longsdorf, with Doris. If any of this is helpful, I will put you in contact with someone who might know more. Pam

    1. [INOWEN] Longsdorff in Owen Co,
    2. I, too have a mystery involving the name Longsdorff, most likely in Owen County. My gggrandmother, Mary Ann McKee (Page) Longsdarff (it is spelled on the marriage record) was born in Owen Co. She married my first my gggrandfather, Moses B. Page in Spencer in 1853 and they had 4 children. After moving to west central Illinois ,Moses was in the Civil war for four years, serving the Ill. 116th Infantry Regiment. He was in all the major battles and MaryAnn must have decided he would not return or perhaps she was misinformed about his death...or??? She married ____ Longsdarff in about 1868. I have the exact date somewhere. At any rate she is recorded as marrying my gggrandfather Moses, a second time (her third marriage) in Ill. when Moses was 79. He was ill and going blind and I'm guessing she became "Widow Longsdarff" and decided to remarry Moses in order to take care of him the rest of his days, which she did in Paris, Il , Edgar Co. I love this story, but would VERY much like to be able to fill in the blanks. If there were Longsdarff (dorff) 's in Owen Co., perhaps she brought the four children back from Illinois during the war to stay with her parents in Freedom during the war (with four little ones, that would be understandable) and after giving up on Moses, married the Longsdarff person. So you see, I am very interested in Doris Williams Longsdorf, born in 1911 as a possible relative with a clue about Mary Ann's second marriage. Would you please tell me all you know about the Longsdorf's in Owen Co.?? THANKS! When she remarried Moses, her name is recorded as Mary Ann McKee (maiden name) Page Longsdarff. I am trying to find out how the Longsdarff (dorff?) marriage came about and whether she came back to Owen Co.where her parents, Alexander McKee and Nancy (Harris) McKee lived near Freedom while married to Mr. L. If anyone could help me with clues to this time period in Mary Anns life (her life between the first marriage to Moses and the second marriage to Moses. I would be most grateful. Their eldest son, Josiah was born in Spencer in 1854 and I assume they shorly removed to Illinois, since they do not show up again (at least as a Page family) in Owen Co. Carolyn Page Strafford

    1. [INOWEN] re Lucinda Hudson
    2. To Ann Winans" <awinans@earthlink.net> Lucinda T. COUCHMAN and William R. HUDSON had these children: John H. HUDSON, born 1835 in Owen Co., Indiana. George C. HUDSON, born 1 Mar 1838 in Owen Co., Indiana; died 16 Nov 1858 in Ellis Co., Texas. William H. HUDSON, born 1843 in Owen Co., Indiana. Emma C. HUDSON, born 17 Apr 1845 in Owen Co., Indiana; died 11 Feb 1882 in Ellis Co., Texas.  She married on 10 Jan 1872 S. B. CALDWELL. Mary E. HUDSON, born 1848 in Owen Co., Indiana. Is this the family you are looking for? There seems to be a bit of a difference in that you listed Lucinda Hudson Couchman as sister to two Hudson men. I have that she was born 2 Jul 1812 in Kentucky and died 22 Sep 1858 in Ellis Co., Texas. Her husband was born in 1811. Her brother, Nenian, also married a Hudson. I have no other information on the Hudsons, just on the Couchmans. Nancy Pundsack

    1. [INOWEN] John WOOD, 1850
    2. William&Shirley Rowe
    3. I'm trying to trace my ggggrandfather, John WOOD. Because the name is so common it's obviously more difficult to research. Here's what I know: 1850 Owen County INDIANA Census lists John WOOD, 39, b. NC, Martha WOOD, 27, b. NC, Nathan WOOD, 13, b. NC, Hardin Wood, 12, b. NC, Hiram WOOD, 2, b. Indiana. There is no listing for this family in 1860 in Owen County. John owned land in Clay Township in 1848. Did the family stay in Owen County? What happened to the two younger children? John WOOD b. about 1811. He probably married around 1835/6. Martha, b. about 1823 (this could be John's second wife as she would only have been 14 when the first son was born and there is a ten year gap between second and third child but it's also possible that she's his first wife). Nathan WOOD, married Sarah MAY in Owen County (Spencer) on 19 July 1860. They had seven children. The children married into the following families: TIPTON, FRANKLIN, ISOM, PARRISH, SIMS. Nathan died 1 Jul 1886 and in buried in the Adel Cemetery. Sarah died 14 Jun 1921 in Adel, Indiana. She resided with one of her sons, Otis Wood in Bloomington for several years before her death. Recently started searching for Hardin and Hiram since they are less common names and thought perhaps they might provide some leads if I can connect with someone. Thanks for any insight you can provide. Shirley WOOD Rowe San Antonio, TX
