    1. [INOWEN] Lets Dig up some Roots!!
    2. Debbie Jennings
    3. Hi Listmembers: It sure is a dreary day in Indiana. Seems like the type of day for running some roll calls to get some data on this mailing list! For the new members, a roll call is simply a request for everyone to get their queries on the list for the best possible results. In doing this please remember a few items and guidelines. PLEASE DO NOT JUST HIT REPLY AND SEND THE POSTING TO ME...SEND IT TO THE LIST. Let's begin this roll call right now on Monday January 29th 2001 and run it until next Monday night at midnight February 5th 2001. To make your query work harder for you... keep in mind the old rules of news reporting and include as many of the following as possible: SUBJECT FIELD: To get the most from your query and make your query command attention, place the SURNAME, LOCATION, YEAR in the subject field. Remember ! ! ! ! Many subscribers belong to multiple mailing lists; therefore, many go through their mail looking at subject fields... only reading those that have descriptive subject names. Unfortunately, messages entitled "Question", "Help", "IMPORTANT!", "My Family", "My Line", "My Grandfather", etc., are deleted without ever being opened. WHO: State the names of people as completely as you can. WHAT: Try to limit your query to one or two specific questions or bits of information. Post other queries with additional questions rather than load all your questions into one query. In this way, each of your questions will stand out and get attention. WHEN: Dates are important, if you don't know the day, month and year try to put in a period (1790s, late 1800s etc.) WHERE: Mention the location of events (birth, marriage, death, etc.) in the body of the query. Include their migration path if you can. WHY: Why are you searching for this(these) individual(s)? Describe your connection to him/her. HOW: How your query appears will often get subscriber's attention. Check spelling, grammar and format. REPETITION: Once you have an acceptable looking query, save it and update it as necessary. Use it again bi-weekly to touch base with new members. Also, you may use it on web sites that accepts queries. REMEMBER: Your goal is to get information. A list server (discussion group), such as this, is an excellent forum for helping you get that information. Make your query work! By following these recommendations, your query stands a better chance of being read and you may make that great contact that you need. GOOD QUERIES CONNECT... CAUTION... You may wish to consider withholding personal data on living descendants. Because, at the moment, once your message has been archived on RootsWeb, neither the data within nor the message can be removed from the archives. ALWAYS: Be sure to thank the person(s) who answer your queries, whether or not their answers have any usable info or not. Remember, they might not have any info now, but just might obtain some, and be reluctant to send to an ungrateful person. TRY: To answer as many queries as you may be able to. In this I mean ones that you have info for. NOT just to say "I don't know anything". Also make certain that if your answer doesn't apply to more then a couple persons, please send it privately and not to the group. Many of our lists are set to reply to the group, so check the address before sending. 1. [INOWEN] Foster Families
    2. Victoria Johnson
    3. I am researching the family of Anthony Sinclair (Sinclear) Foster (son of John and Agness Foster from VA) who can be found in the 1840 and 1850 Owen Co. census. His children were: Mary, Nancy Jones, Mansfield, Elizabeth Lewis, Sarah Jane, Agness Allise, Martha W., Joanah Jefferson, and James. I believe Ambrose who is also living in the area was a brother to Anthony. Reportedly Anthony was a carpenter and a veteran of the War of 1812. James and Mansfield later moved to Missouri. Any information on any of these family members would be greatly appreciated. Would also be glad to share what I have.

    2. Debbie Jennings
    3. I am searching for any information regarding an Anna E. Workman who lived in and around the Rowan County NC area about 1795.Anna was born about1776. She married Ephraim Goss on March 23,1795 in Rowan county NC. They migrated to Washington county IN about 1810 and then on to Owen county IN in 1818. Anna died there on Sept 19, 1854. This couple had 10 children and I would be interested in sharing any data. I am trying however to locate who her parents were or at least eliminate any Workman/Wortman in the 1790 Rowan county NC census. I know they came to Owen county from somewhere in Kentucky and then went back to KY before returning to Greene county where they stayed. cj

    2. Thanks for your reply, Carolyn. None of the names you give are in my research so far. Your city is of interest; Mary Ann McKee married Moses B. Page in Spencer, In, but they spent their married lives in Paris Il. Moses is buried there. Can't find Mary Ann's burial place, but obituary says she is buried there, also. I visited there last July and took photos of Moses' military tombstone (Civil War, 116th Ill. Infantry).

    2. Have a friend of mine that is looking for information on a Billy and Annie FULK, and their daughter Elizabeth who was born around 1842 or so. My ancestral information here in NC doesn't find them and was wondering if anyone following the FULK migration from NC to Indiana might have some clues. PS: I have a manually stapled, non-copyrighted series of 19 pages that were provided to me named "The FULK Family History," written by Luther N. BOYD of Elon College, NC, 1977. Will be glad to look up anyone, but the names in it are those FULKS that stayed here in NC. Bob Carter Greensboro, NC

    1. Re: [INOWEN] Surname: McKee
    2. Hi Carolyn and list, Could your McKee line be in any way connected to that of Clay and Vigo CO IN? JUst on the off chance, here's what I've got: William Ferguson Thompson McKee b. 1818 with brother John F.T McKee found living in Vigo Co. in 1830s and 1840s. Possibly connected with a Robert McKee there found in the 1840 census. John married and moved to Iowa, whereas William (my ancestor) married a Nancy Thompkins in Vigo Co and moved to Clay Co IN. In Clay they had lots of land, a Saw Mill and a bunch of kids. Some names are William, MArtha, Nancy, Robert, Joseph, Arnold. I descend from Robert but have lots to share on others of this line too. Since they lived in Clay Co, its not far from Owen and Robert McKee's daughters married into the OWEN Co. SHIELDS line. If anyone out there can connect let me know. Carolyn Shields Lysandrou, Peoria IL
