    1. [INOWEN] Love/Baldwin families in Nelson Co.KY, Owen Co.& Putnam Co's in IN...1800's
    2. I'm on a mission......trying to find out who the parents of : Margaret "Peggy" LOVE b. 1800 PA......she married Samuel T. BOLDON/BALDWIN 28 Jun 1818 Nelson Co.KY. Polly "Mary" LOVE b. 1803 TN....she married Thomas BOLDON/BALDWIN 15 Feb 1823 Nelson Co.KY. The husbands of these two girls are brothers and I'm wondering if the girls are sisters or possibly cousins?? Both families migrated to Owen Co.IN and were found on the 1830 census there......Samuel eventually moving to Tipton Co.IN Wildcat Twp.and Thomas to Putnam Co.IN. Cloverdale Twp. There was a John LOVE living next to Samuel T. on the 1830 census......WHO is he?? A brother , a father ?? Must be some relation. John LOVE also moved to Putnam Co.IN on the 1840 census there living next to a Lyman LOVE {mar. to a Mary MOSS.....presumably his son?? This was in Monroe Twp. Also found a Deliah LOVE there married to a MOSS and later to a WELLS. I did find in the family files at Nelson Co.Library a genealogy sheet with Samuel T.'s family on it and it had listed a WILLIAM LOVE as the father of Samuel's wife Margaret?? The person who worked on this paper is deceased, so I can not find out his source......hoping that someone out there will be able to help unravel this LOVE line. All information and suggestions are Welcome! Thanks so much, N.J.Skinner White in MI.....vwhite0901@aol.com

    1. [INOWEN] SCOTT
    2. Dear Owen County List, I'm working on the Alexander SCOTT family. Here is what I think I know so far (which isn't much.) I'd like to know if anyone has cemetery or post-1850 marriage records which could help. It seems possible, Alexander and Martha may be buried at Barnes Cemetery ...maybe. Alexander SCOTT was probably born between 1790 and 1795 in Ohio. He may have been the son of Arthur SCOTT of Monroe County, Ohio. Alexander married Martha BARNS before 1820. Martha was born about 1797 in Virginia. She was the daughter of Stephen BARNS. In 1820, Alexander is shown with his family living next door to Stephen BARNS in Jackson Township, Monroe County, Ohio. According to the 1884 History of Owen County, Alexander came to Owen County about 1823. “...Beverly VAUGHN and Cassius EDWARDS (very early settlers) came about the same time, and settled on land which was purchased in 1823 by Alexander SCOTT. The last named was a native of Ohio, and a resident of Franklin Township until 1843.” Probate index records indicate, Alexander died about 1843. These index records also name Arthur and Robert M. SCOTT as sons and heirs of Alexander. Children of Alexander SCOTT and Martha BARNS: i. Arthur SCOTT was born about 1820 in Ohio. ii. Stephen SCOTT was born about 1823 in Ohio (probably Monroe County.) He married Cynthia Philbert 06 September 1849 in Owen County, Indiana. Cynthia was born about 1827 in Indiana. iii. Robert M. SCOTT was born about 1824 in Indiana. iv. Ephraim SCOTT was born about 1828 in Indiana. v. Silas SCOTT was born about 1831 in Indiana. vi. Nancy SCOTT was born about 1833 in Indiana. vii. Alexander SCOTT was born about 1836 in Indiana. viii. George W. SCOTT was born about 1839 in Indiana. Any help, information or advice would be greatly appreciated!!!! Charlotte macslewin@aol.com

    1. [INOWEN] New Partial Vigo County Marriage License database available
    2. Laura Ellen Mitchell
    3. Vigo County Public Library in Terre Haute, IN has added a WORK IN PROGRESS, a database of viewable marriage records for Vigo County from Feb. 1932 to Feb. 1951. It is not very conspicuous on the page that it is a WORK IN PROGRESS, but I realized that very quickly when I searched it for records I had already obtained on microfilm at the library and they were not yet in the database. HOWEVER, I did find one record of a marriage that I was not aware of, so others may have some luck also. Once I find out more about the index, I will pass the info along. There is a Bride's Index, and a Groom's Index. You can view the complete marriage record online in its original writing as long as you have downloaded Adobe Acrobat viewer, a free file, as well as print the record. There is currently a link to the marriage index above the library's picture at www.vigo.lib.in.us You can also go to www2.vigo.lib.in.us/marriage/index.htm Please pass the info along to other lists that you think would be appropriate. Happy hunting! Laura Mitchell Terre Haute

    1. [INOWEN] SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
    2. Debbie Jennings
    3. Listmembers: In regards to the recent outbreak of viruses, all that can be done is being done as far as the lists go. Most of us know that some of these ARE coming through the list and not as replies whether or not they are suppose to or not. Actually I think that is a rather moot point right now. The fact is that they are getting out to everyone. I am the listowner for about 17 lists and fortunately it has only affected 4 of them and those only briefly. So far, the procedure I have been applying is working. Here would be my advice regarding any of these postings: 1. Get a good virus scan 2. Anything with a mailing list address that has an attachment, DELETE IT (this means anything with the preface in the subject line of your mailing list's name) 3. Send me the email of the sender, I will unsub them immediately and put out a list message so others won't open anything from that address. 4. After deleting the messages from your list, also DELETE YOUR DELETED ITEMS FOLDER OR TRASH. 5. As an avid researcher myself, I know that sometimes sending files/attachments is a must. Please follow these guidelines to assure the best caution: a) Let persons know in a previous email that you will be sending them an attachment (specify that it will be in the next email, possibly giving them a subject line for it) b) Insist that they do the same. c) Develop a "trusted core" group of persons that you will accept from and make no exceptions. d) Keep in contact with these persons regularly so you will know if they have had any viruses recently. e) Send what you can in text format, not using an attachment. f) With this group of persons that you DO accept attachments from, create a system that would be known between you. For example: something specific in the subject line or maybe, as one man I exchange with does, he places this BEFORE any saluation in the body of the message-- "One(or whatever) attachments included" then he addresses me. This lets me know that if I don't see that in the beginning of the text and there is an attachment...it isn't his. g)Alot of persons I am in constant exchange with, I also talk with on the Instant Messenger. We will tell each other if we are sending them an attachment. h) FOR ANYONE WHO DOESN'T HAVE OR CAN'T GET A VIRUS SCAN.... Yahoo Mail is set up so that it has a McAfee/Norton virus scan on it. It automatically scans any attachment, coming in or going out, BEFORE OPENING. It may be a good idea to set up an account through Yahoo temporarily and use it only for having your attachments sent to. Lastly.... I know it is difficult to see an attachment that might be "the one answer" you are searching for and have to delete it....BUT please stop and think... IS GAINING THAT ONE PIECE OF INFO THAT ATTACHMENT "MIGHT" CONTAIN WORTH LOSING EVERYTHING IN MY SYSTEM. We on the mailing lists must be doubly careful, as we are dealing with MANY unknown persons and also we are connected through the lists to many persons, and we don't want to infect anyone else by opening something that would then be transmitted.
