Hello Listmembers, I am going to be in Owen County next week and am wondering how you would recommend researching for a short stay. I will be looking for the Hudson family who were Presbyterians in the mid 1800s. Please send any replies to Aswinans@aol.com Thanks, Ann Winans
Documents I have received from Owen County Library state that 2 ancestors are buried in the "Old Carolina Graveyard." Has anyone any idea if such a place is found in Owen County? Thank you, Dianna
The gremlins have been at work... I have been having computer problems, and have managed to Lose my address book. I would greatly appreciate, if anyone, who has had correspondence with me in the last 2 years, or if my name is in your address book, would contact me, so that I might rebuild my address book. Thank you very much. I will be greatly appreciated. Dick Carter rcar37@prodigy.net
I also have Longs and Weatherlys who migrated from NC through Owen County and on to Iowa. The Weatherlys are not direct ancestors but intermarry with cousins. I have a John Calvin Weatherly marrying Mary Magdalene Fulk (Volck) in 1851 with children: James, Eliza Jane, Mary, John Irvin, Sherman, Isabelle and Byron. (Check out Rosemary Lovell's "Owen County Cousins II") My grandmother was one of six Long sisters whose father, Frank H. Long, was born in Owen County. His father was John Calvin Long, b. 5/09/1830 d. 6/09/1862 Owen Co., who married Catherine Adaline Irvin, d. 12/1871 in Owen County. (I have a nice portrait of Frank H. Long as well as John Arney, also an early Owen settler) I would love more information about the Long/Irvin line (Catherine's father is simply listed as "Squire Irvin" in family records, married to Louisa Crouse). This list is not the place to be discussing VIRUS', not is it the place to be spreading panic... Let this be the last mention of the subject of VIRUS. Many of you are being "taken in" by a so-called virus "SULFNBR.EXE". THIS IS A HOAX IF YOU DELETE THIS, YOU ARE CRIPPLING YOUR COMPUTER. IT IS A PART OF YOUR MICROSOFT PROGRAM... Please refrain from forwarding panic alerts, warnings etc on this forum... You are just spreading the alarm over something that is NOT A DANGER TO YOUR SYSTEM... I thought that this list was not to be used for anything other than genealogy, even to alert people of a computer virus (in this case a hoax). I'm repeatedly seeing this on many of the lists I subscribe to. Can someone do something? I get enough junk mail.
