    1. [INOWEN] Andrew EVANS 1759-1840
    2. My line descends from Andrew EVANS and Elizabeth FAIN. Andrew EVANS b. 9-28-1759 in Mecklenburgh county NC and he and Elizabeth FAIN married about 1781 in Washington county TN. They later migrated to Owen county IN where Andrew died 12-5-1840. I am interested in finding the parents of Andrew EVANS. I have seen various claims that his lineage proceeds as: David Evans--father Peter--grandfather Lot Evans II--great grandfather Lot Evans I--gg grandfather. As of yet however, I can find no proof of this. Anywhere I have seen this listed there is never any clue as to the poster so I can write for documentation. Does anyone have any information on this line? I am searching for the documentation of this info. The couple resided in Owen county IN and Jesse died there on 1-9-1888 and Sarah died there on 11-10-1912. 1. [INOWEN] SCOTT, FOSTER, WHITE in Halifax Co. VA
    2. Nancy R. Scott
    3. Owen County friends, you will rejoice with us when I tell you that we think we have found the parents & siblings of Samuel SCOTT + Milly FOSTER in Halifax Co. VA. Some of the SCOTTs still live there, and the connection to General Winfield SCOTT seems more possible. One of these family members/researchers has recently discovered that there is a slave cemetery on the Scott farm, which might be interesting to some of you. We don't have any names yet. In looking at the Halifax Co. VA tax rolls and deeds, I notice Francis SCOTT, as well as the names from our SCOTT family. Be sure to let us know if you can contribute anything to the SCOTT story or if you can ask pertinent questions! If you like a good story, PEARL'S SECRET by Henry, tells of a genealogical search that had a good ending! nancy Nancy Scott

    1. [INOWEN] Please Read from List Admin
    2. Dear Listmembers: Seems as if of late I am the only one contributing to the list, but in light of recent developments that is understandable. However, one item needs to be addressed. It covers a view different areas. I AM NOT BEING HARSH WITH THIS, IT IS STANDARD MAILING LIST PROCEDURE FOR ALL LISTS. UNSUBSCRIBING--in order to unsubscribe from a mailing list, please send an email to: whatever your list [email protected] Place only the word unsubscribe in the body of the post. I am available to assist you IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH IT. Otherwise it is an automated system. At the present time I am completely deluged with just removing persons who are infected with the current virus. CHANGE OF ADDRESS-- Unless you have unusual problems with this procedure it is also an automated system. Just unsub under your old email and resub under the new one. If for some reason you cannot take the old one off since this works with the address of your email, I will do this, but you can subscribe for the new one yourself. ** If you do need assistance in either of the above areas, I REALLY NEED your old email as well as the new one along with the name of the list. I can't do anything with it otherwise and they will be deleted. AUTOMATIC REROUTING SYSTEMS-- Please don't set your system to mail this info to your mailing lists. 1. They don't tell anyone the NEW address only that the mail is being re routed to a new one. 2. They don't give a clue as to the list name you are even on. MAILING YOUR SUB OR UNSUB REQUESTS TO ME OR THE LIST-- These will be deleted. The process for subbing or unsubbing is VERY EASY AND SIMPLE. THESE DIRECTIONS ABOVE DON'T APPLY TO THOSE BEING REMOVED AND REPLACED DUE TO THE VIRUS. I AM DOING THOSE MYSELF. 2. The Scott Family
    3. Dear Elizabeth: I am related directly to the Arneys and indirectly to all the others. I have a great story written by Nancy Arney Neff (given to me by my grandmother Nola Long Boss, from her mother Rosalaine Arney Long) about the migration from Owen County to Iowa which I have posted previously. My grandmother also included brief notes regarding the migration from NC and also a story from her grandmother, Eliza Fulk Arney, about her courtship in Iowa which is entertaining and perhaps embellished a bit. I would love to correspond with anyone on this line. I am rather swamped with holiday projects currently, but hope to be finished with everything WELL ahead of Christmas, so I might be tardy in response. : - ) Alison Boss Scott Gordon Boss Nola Long Boss Rosalaine Arney Long John Calvin Long/Catherine Irvin(A) & Eliza Fulk Arney/Solomon Arney(B) (A) Jacob Long/Mary Criss & Squire Irvin/Louisa Crouse (B)John Arney/Mary Boyles & Henry Fulk/Mary Shore These are all Owen County names before Rosalaine. I don't really have a lot on the Longs/Irvins/Criss'/Crouse/Shore/Boyles. The Arney line is well documented as is the Volck/Fulk line. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elizabeth Chain" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, November 29, 2001 10:41 PM Subject: [INOWEN] Arney; Ellsberry; Fiscus; Hilsabeck; Speas > Hello, dear list members: I would like to hear from people with information on Anderson Jackson Hilsabeck, also surnames Fiscus, Hilsabeck, Arney, Ellsberry, and Speas are all in my family. 1. [INOWEN] Price
    2. Does anyone on the list have any information on who were the children of Daniel Price and Salome Fairchild. The following comes mostly from the Barnes Cemetery and 1820/1830/1840/1850 census records. The only ones I know for sure are Susannah Price Barns and Daniel Price, Jr. Here is what I think I know: Children of Daniel Price Sr. and Salome Fairchild Female Price born 1800 - 1810 Aaron T. Price (?) was born 06 April 1805 Susannah Price was born 28 March 1807 Female Price born 1815 - 1820 Daniel Price, Jr. was born 14 May 1816 Male Price born 1815 - 1820 Male Price born 1820 - 1825 Female Price born 1820 - 1825 Ursula Price (?) was born 13 February 1826 Potential Children of Daniel Price, Sr. Cynthia Price married David Holliday 08 Jan 1848 Ursula Price married Thomas J./I. Wells 05 Jan 1843* Mary Price married Shadrach Stogsdill 17 Jan 1836* Isaac Price married Sally Littlejohn 24 December 1846 Francis Price married Andrew J. Brent 27 February 1848 Elizabeth Prick(?)/Price married John Crisp 26 October 1834 *best possibilities since the same minister performed the marriages of Ursula, Mary and Daniel Price, Jr. I know some of the above marriages are not Daniel and Salome's children. If anyone can eliminate them as their children I'd really appreciate it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Charlotte [email protected]

    1. [INOWEN] For Your Information
    2. Listmembers: As all of you know in recent days we have had a deluge of attachments, viruses, etc hit. Since my last letter of warning I have had many letters of appreciation and some with persons calling me a dictator or a Nazi. This doesn't bother me as one might think as the ends justify the means, (I am trying to protect all of our computers). Even though I did post the message of warning I am still seeing persons getting the virus and I am still unsubscribing them until their systems are cleared up. This is for everyone's protection. Since the way the viruses work they get into someone's address book and send these postings, you might receive them from a close contact or a casual contact as some persons save every address they deal with. They also gain entry into the memory systems and therefore use subject lines familiar with any posts or replies you have made. That is as simple as I can make it. Many of the persons are totally unaware of what is going on until I contact them that it is happening..so don't be mad at those people. I wanted to take a moment to try to help some of you avoid possibly getting a virus. As many of you may or may not know, I have several mailing lists. All of my lists are set to carry the list name in the subject line and this will always be contained in brackets, such as [Kentuckiana-L] (followed by the subject line). Since the viruses are not being carried through the Rootsweb mailing lists, but are only being made to look that way since they are duplicating the subject lines and this would include the list name and therefore look like an authentic list posting... if you receive any postings with a list name in the subject line and it has an attachment--DELETE IT WITHOUT OPENING THE POST. If as you look at your list of mail and see (what appears to be list postings) and there is an attachment there, just hit the delete button. Don't even consider opening it, REGARDLESS OF THE SUBJECT LINE OR POSSIBLE CONTENT. Follow this procedure also for any emails containing the words (not a subscriber) that have an attachment. These are from persons who have been unsubbed from the list. Some of these are activating without opening the attachments although they aren't suppose to do that. I am more interested in what they ARE DOING to your system then whether they are functioning as they are suppose to. You will not receive a message post from one of my lists without the list name in the brackets so use this as a form of detection. NO LEGITIMATE POST WILL COME THROUGH THE LIST WITH AN ATTACHMENT. I will make a listing of the lists I administer within this post so make a note of them. I will use *** next to the list name to denote if any attachment/virus activity has hit that list so far. Some have had no instances and others are just out of control. I am not trying to dictate what you do, only to protect you and others from infections. I am trying to give you all a way of seeing which posts are potential for danger without opening them and doing this with a certainty that you are not missing any vital data you might need. My lists: APGAR *** BINGHAM BOTT *** BUSHEY GOSS INOWEN **** JENNINGS *** KENTUCKIANA*** KNOLL RATZ RICKARD *** SCHUYLER *** SECREST *** SUMMER*** TONER VTFRANKL *** WARFORD Please be very careful in opening your mail. This should have no effect on you posting to the lists...it is more a matter of what you OPEN. As all of you are researching and perhaps working with someone right now on a lineage, let those persons know to notify you ahead of time in a SEPARATE email in this manner: " I am sending you an attachment for the John Smith Family". Have them be specific as to what and how many and to send the attachment soon after notifying you so that you are expecting THAT one in particular. If there is any variation in what they are telling you they will send and what you recieve don't open it and question them about it. Many persons will have no knowledge unless they are told. If you do get unsubscribed from one of my lists you will need to follow this procedure to get resubbed: Contact me personally and let me know your system has been cleaned. I will need to resub you manually as your name will be on a list to prevent automatic resubbing. Please let me know the list name also. No apology is needed as nobody in their right mind would deliberately get and pass on these viruses...I know it is just something that is happening. 1. [INOWEN] List Activity
    2. Listmembers: As many of you have pointed out, our list activity has been somewhat down recently. For the most part this has been due to the period we have just been through with holidays and the summertime (and vacations). My first thought was to call for a roll call to generate some activity, but in view of the recent virus problems, I feel that perhaps this isn't the best time. I do encourage any posting that you feel you wish to make, however, please be cautious as to the opening of the responses you recieve as many of these attachments are "mirroring" subject lines we are posting. I DO NOT in any way wish to hamper anyone's efforts in researching their family lines, HOWEVER, I also DON'T wish to "fan the flame" so to speak in this recent virus flare up. Many of you know that these things come and go periodically and will pass in a short time. We go through waves of this now and then. Many of my lists are so rampant with these attachments that I have considered making the lists monitored (messages being filtered through me prior to posting) but that is just so much hassle and I don't want to have to make the decision as to whose posts get made and whose don't, that is unfair to all subscribers. I would however like to make one request: As I accept many items from persons for placement on various websites-- PLEASE, PLEASE send me an email PRIOR to sending whatever attachment you are sending to let me know what it is, ANY WITHOUT THIS WILL BE DELETED WITHOUT READING. I myself am taking the road of deleting all postings with attachments regardless who they are from--for the time being. 1. [INOWEN] PLEASE READ--FROM YOUR LIST ADMINISTRATOR
    2. Dear List Members: As much as I hate to do this, it seems that periodically I must post this type of message. First and foremost-- PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE ON THE LIST. Contact me PRIVATELY if you feel a reply is warranted. PLEASE DO NOT SEND VIRUS WARNINGS/ACTIVITY TO THE LIST. Contact me PRIVATELY and I will deal with the situation as is needed. FOR GOODNESS SAKE--please don't post to the list messages with the subject line of "I had a virus but its gone now" or the message " I opened an attachment and got a bug, so don't open it". That is much like telling someone you have a contagious disease AFTER they shake your hand. Anyone violating the above will be unsubscribed. There is a new strain of a virus that can APPEAR to be closely connected to a mailing list. It is called BadTrans.B and I as well as others have recieved many of these in the recent past. Please try to recognize these by the following: 1. The address could be any conceivable combination, there is no set pattern. It quite frequently will resemble any other legitimate address. IT ALSO MAY BE ONE YOU ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH. 2. The "subject line" is taken from a message you sent to either an individual or a mailing list. Therefore it will most likely appear to be of interest to you. 3. Most of these have NO VISIBLE CONTENT OR ATTACHMENT 4. There are some of these "attachments" that ARE NOT being caught by the virus scans, so it is up to YOU to be aware of what you are opening. Viruses at this time are not able to be passed through the mailing lists. But, they will APPEAR to have done so because the subject line is one you have sent to an individual or to a mailing list and it uses these lists as targets. Viruses are passed by using the addresses in that persons address book, which could be a frequent or casual contact of yours. As List Administrator I need to take whatever precautions I feel best protects the listmembers. Here is what will be done if anyone on our lists is found to be transmitting any viruses: 1. I will unsubscribe the address and block resubscription. 2. I will contact the infected subscriber to explain what has been done and why. 3. On reasonable assurance from the subscriber that the person's PC has been cleaned the can then resubscribe. Please be aware that these procedures are being done to protect everyone on the list and not to punish anyone. Remember, persons passing these along, most of the time are unaware of it and are just as much victims themselves. They are NOT bad people. They are only people who were unaware or caught off guard. That is why I am trying to warn everyone. Please DO NOT send names of persons who you suspect to the list. Rest assure, I am receiving exactly what most everyone is. I have assistance in trying to "catch" all these with as few getting by as possible. There is no need to unsub from any list, everything possible is being done for your protection. WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR OWN PROTECTION. 1. Make certain that you have updated your virus protection software since November 25, 2001. 2. Make certain that you updated it frequently. 3. Stay current with new postings made to your virus source website. Please BE AWARE AND LEERY of opening attachments from ANYONE. These can appear in messages from your CLOSEST FRIEND, MOTHER, SISTER, BROTHER, anyone. I make it a policy to have a "core" group of persons I accept from and even then I ask that they notify me prior to sending any attachment. I am very leery of any mail received from even my closest contacts, if they NORMALLY don't send me attachments. I have some persons I have spoken to for years and never have had an attachment from, so in that case I would be very suspicious. Thank you for your time and attention Debbie Jennings List Administrator

    1. [INOWEN] Five Killed Crossing Railroad Tracks in Ellettsville
    2. Randi Richardson
    3. Bloomington (IN) Telephone, Mar 22, 1912, p. 1. FIVE R. R. VICTIMS BURIED TODAY Funeral of Four Held at Spencer A quadruple funeral, that of four of the young men who met a terrible death Monday morning when they were struck by Monon train No. 4 while crossing the track at Ellettsville in a closed surrey, was held today at 2 o'clock at the Christian Church at Spencer. The glass factory remained closed down so the employees could attend. Many others attended out of curiosity and it was the largest funeral that was ever held at Spencer. The services were very impressive and seldom in the country are four bodies buried side by side. At the same time the funeral of Martin Warden, Hal Brown, Jesse Rodgers and Emmett Williams was being held at Spencer, another funeral, that of Arthur Warden, was being held at his home town of Summittsville. He was the fifth victim of the horrible accident and his remains were sent to Summittsville Tuesday evening. The bodies of the four men remained at the Hunter and Son Morgue until afternoon yesterday when they were taken to Spencer in two spring wagons. Jesse Rodgers had belonged to the Red Men order at his home town for about 8 weeks, but because of some delay in paying the dues the lodge would take no responsibility upon othemselves for his burial. The Red Men camp at Ellettsville took the initiative and had the body prepared for burial befitting a member of the order and in their regalia. A number of members came over from Spencer and stated that they would cooperate with the Ellettsville lodge. The glass factory, where the men had worked, was forced to close down Monday because of a broken boiler and since the accident has not resumed work. President Bartless and Supt. Bold made arrangements for the funeral and a subscription was taken to buy a cemetery lot where the remains of their fellow workmen could be interred. The Red Men of Spencer attended the funeral in a body and held their ritualistic service at the grave of their brother --------- Of the unfortunate victims of the Ellettsville accident, the Spencer Journal says: "All the boys were favorites at the factory. Williams was known as 'Yellow Baby,' Martin as 'White Eye,' Farmer as 'Gay Bo' and Brown as 'Brownie.' Their untimely death has cast a gloom over the entire community."
