A moment ago I received an off-list e-mail from a member of this list named SANDRA that contained no message in the body, apparently concerning my post to the list yesterday re: ALLISON . I attempted to respond to notify the sender that no message transmitted, but I get an error message back that my mail can't be delivered. Would that individual please be so kind as tore-send the message? Thanks, Michael Allison
Hello. Just joined this list in effort to locate a lost tribe of my Allison family. Searching for any descendants of JOHN BURCH ALLISON, originally of Maryland and progenitor of a line of early Owen County merchants. I'm aware that at one time, there were numerous members of this family in and around Spencer, plus other areas of the county. I'm hoping to reach the descendants. Is there anyone on this list with roots leading back to JOHN BURCH ALLISON? Can anyone help me to locate Allison family members in the county or the area still today? Many thanks, Michael Allison

Listmembers: Based on recent list activity I am apparently one of the last few persons playing "hide and seek" with the ancestors, (except for a few others who I know I connect ,so same family line). "Owen County Cousins" page 263 gives Francis Calvin as child of Samuel Thomas HAUSER (b. 1/1/1803 d. 11/28 /1874) and Anna Maria HEGE (b. 12/31/1797 d. 1813 or after). Other children Julia, Lawrence and Lucica. No dates given for children. Samuel s/o Simon Peter & Maria Barbara (SHORE) HAUSER John, Clay Co., IN ( wife is HAUSER descendant.)
I know that there are a lot of Hauser relatives out there, like me (33 I can see in the tree right now). My Hausers migrated through Owen County and on to Iowa. I can't seem to find my copy of "Owen County Cousins" so I can't place Frances Hauser, he's not in my tree (so far!), but a marriage certificate from Iowa is on eBay now with his name on it (1896). However, it's in German and his name is listed third, perhaps he was a minister? There is a Lena Kuepper and another name I can't decipher. Anybody have this gentleman in their tree? Is he the minister? Posted by Priscilla Normandy Greenwood for Russ McCarty: My name is Russ McCarty. My line descends from the offspring of Aaron Hardwick McCarty (who married Nancy Beavers), and his son Cornelius McCarty and his wife Malissa Combs, many of whose descendants repose in the Combes Cemetery. However, Aaron Hardwick McCarty, the Virginia/Kentucky progenitor of this family and his wife rest somewhere else. Does anyone know where? They owned large tracts of land in the early 1800s in the area between the present Combs Cemetery and the town of Gosport. Of course Quincy, where his descendents are buried is located almost on the Putnam County line,so it's possible that he and his wife are buried in a Putnam County cemetery. Any clues would be appreciated. Sincerely, Russ McCarty [email protected]
Thomas C. Johnson, minister, Bethel Christian Church, Gosport, Jefferson Township, page 733 OWEN COUNTY INDIANA 1884, cf.p677. If you look at the list of marriges in Owen Co. IN before 1850, you will see that many of the marriages were performed by Thomas C. Johnson, M. G. (minister of the gospel), including many of the children of Samuel SCOTT, which will be about the dates you are looking for. nancy ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, February 06, 2002 6:25 AM Subject: [INOWEN] Who were these men? > I am searching for some info on the following men. Dick, They are all listed in Combes Cemetery in the book "Owen County Cemetery Listings," 1983. With the exception of Mahala, the names below are all in the S.E. Corner, Row 13. Mahala Carter is listed in Row 11, as w/o L., 7 Oct 1849 - 23 Aug 1866. > Mahala Carter, Richard K Carter, Columba Carter, C A Carter, > Eliza Carter.... My information is that they are buried at Combes > Cemetery, south of Quincy in Taylor Twp., Owen County...someone has sent me > information that they are at Beech Cemetery in Marion Twp., Owen Co. I know my father's name is on a gravestone far from where he's buried, but that seems like an awful lot of Carters to be wrong. Please let us know what you find out. Priscilla

Linda, I saw two mentions of your name and BUSH in the recent Owen Co. Journal. We are interested in finding the residences, children, and death & burial info of Mary Louisa SCOTT (born 1832, daughter of Samuel & Milly (FOSTER) SCOTT) and Thomas BUSH, married 1 March 1855. Do you know of this couple? Are they buried in the Bush cemetery? Who did you hire to place a stone in the Bush cemetery? The Scott cemetery needs a new stone for Samuel Scott and possibly others. Thanks. nancy
