On the 16th of April, 1870, in Clay County, Indiana John Royer, aged 65 years, 9 months and 12 days. He was buried on the 18th at Funk's burying-ground, where a large assembly of friends and relatives followed him to the grave. Funeral discourses were delivered by Elias Michler and David Oberholtzer, from Rev. 14:13. He was a consistant member and a deacon in the Mennonite church. He leaves a widow and seven children to mourn their loss. I figure that his birthdate would be: July 4, 1804. This John is the father of Rev. John Royer b.11-6-1840 in Ohio, d. 12-22-1924 in Spiceland, Henry County, IN buried in the Christian Cemetery at Patricksburg, Owen County, IN He was in the History of Patricksburg, Indiana. SHOEMAKERS. In 1864 John Royer put up a shop here and did a good business. Everybody like him for he was a genial fellow. His second wife was Miss Laura Raper, a live, energetic school teacher, who taught him our of his trade into the ministry. He became a a successful Methodist preacher. And also found this: On the 21st of November 1888 in Clay County, Indiana. of palsy and old age, Catherine Royer, aged 86 years, 1 month and 9 days. She was born on the 12th of October, 1802. Her maiden name was Funk. She was married in Virginia to John Royer on the 5th of April 1827, and moved to Ohio in the fall of 1830, and to Indiana in the spring of 1853. 2. Randi Richardson
    3. Bloomington (IN) Telephone, Apr 16, 1912, p. 4. MR. LONG WITH MONEY IN SEARCH OF HAPPY HELPMATE The Telephone has found what now seems to be a splendid opportunity for some Monroe County lady of good character to make a leap year proposal that will be accepted by a man who claims to have plenty of the world's goods and is of good Christian character and says he is looking for a woman who would make him a good wife. Mr. Long's first wife died 6 months ago, and he has a daughter 7 years old for whom he wants to find a good mother who will give her proper care and help raise her to respectable womanhood. Mr. Long says he owns a good farm of 177 (difficult to read) acres that is 3 1/2 miles east of Coal City, everything is improved and paid for. He also has money out on interest, owns considerable stock and is one of the directors of the new Patricksburg bank. He is 40 years of age and wants for his wife a woman, a helpmate, and one that will willingly perform the duties of a good housewife. She must care for his daughter as if she were her own. A lady with no children is preferred as he fears that trouble might arise where two sets of children are beneath the same roof. While in the city Thursday, Mr. Long went to the west side photographers and had his picture taken so that next week anyone interested may call and see his likeness.

    1. [INOWEN] Newell Sanders Appointed Senator
    2. Randi Richardson
    3. Bloomington (IN) Telephone, Apr 12, 1912, p. 4. FORMER HOME MAN HONORED FROM TENNESSEE Newell Sanders, formerly of Monroe County, has been appointed United State Senator by Gov. Hooper, from Tennesse in place of Senator Taylor, who died a few days ago. Mr. Sanders was born in Owen County near the Monroe County line, but was reared in Bloomington. He is a brother-in-law of Samuel C. Dodds, cashier of the Monroe County State Bank, W. J. and Morton Dodds, and also a brother-in-law of D. C. Miller, the newspaper man of Bloomington. Mr. Sanders had written relatives in this city that he expected to receive the appointment. He visited Indiana University a short time ago and met many former acquaintances. He is an active worker in the Baptist Church and is an accomplished speaker. A dispatch from Nahsville, Tennessee, says: "Mr. Sanders is a Republican and will be the third man of that political faith to represent Tennessee in the United States Senate. Mr. Sanders has been for 20 years chairman of the Republican state executive committee. Mr. Sanders went to Chatanooga in 1878 and became associated first with H. Clay Evans, a pension collector. Later he was employed by the Chattanooga Plow Comapny and subsequently founded the Newell Sanders Plow Company of which he is president. He was president of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce for many years. Mr. Sanders's appointment was not a surprise for Governor Hooper had intimated that he would select the former Hoosier to succeeed Senator Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. Sanders had already made preparations for moving to Washington."

    2. Hi List, Is anyone familiar with the cemeteries in the Gosport area? I am looking for the burial place of ISAAC BRASIER b. NC about 1771 - m Sarah (Sally) Curry b. about 1784, Jefferson, KY. They died about 1855. They had children that migrated to KS and OK. That is where my lineage began. Not sure if any of their children remained here, but know that Isaac & Sarah were last known to be in Gosport. Any info on cemeteries in that area or records of burial would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
