1. [INOWEN] Arlitta Chambers-Scott Family
2. Jacquie Jones
3. A couple of things! First, my mother has a picture of Arlitta Chambers Truax that I will get and send along-didn't realize this was your line! Have you seen the CHAMBERS book before? It's a beautiful hard-bound book that I've seen in the Owen County library. I'll look and see if Arlitta's family is there, but wanted to make sure you haven't tried it already. Also, I'm looking for the parents of Sarah Scott that married Nathaniel Spangler. I have her birth date as 9-8-1806 in York Co., PA, d. 9-18-1891 in Owen County. I've seen many Scott postings, and was wondering if there was any connection. I don't know anything else about her family. 1. [INOWEN] Margaret (SWEENEY) SMITH/1859->1918/Putnam & Owen county IN
2. Looking for information regarding: Margaret SWEENEY (d/o John & Rutha (Bradshaw) Sweeney) b. June-August 1859 d. sometime after 1918 She married Peter Smith on 9-4-1873 in Putnam county IN. However, they resided in Putnam county as well as Owen county. They are shown in the Putnam county census for 1880 and are listed as residents of Cloverdale in 1914 in the obituary of her father. They were the parents of 8 children: John b. about 1875 James R. b. 1876 m. Della M. Townsend on 1-3-1901 in Owen county Gertie b. 1879 Jacob L. b. 1-6-1882 m. Lora B. 1. [INOWEN] Jesse JONES/ 1824-1888 & Sarah YOUNG/1825-1912
2. I am searching for any information regarding Jesse and Sarah (Young) Jones. Although there were 3 separate sets of couples by this name in the Owen county area, this one was not the doctor. Jesse and Sarah were parents of 10 children: Elijah, William, James, Thomas Jefferson, Sampson, John BP, Emily, Anderson, Harrison, and Daniel. Jesse and Sarah were married on 4-25-1839 in Union county IN and they are shown on the 1850 census in Abington twp, Wayne county in the 1850 census and then on the 1860 census in Putnam county. However they did reside in Owen county or at least in 1873 and until their deaths. Many of their children were also lifelong residents. I would appreciate any info on this family. 1. [INOWEN] McKinney BALDON/ 1792-1856 and wife Mary Ann MURPHY/ 1794->1860
2. McKinney Baldon (s/o Thomas Baldwin) b. 11-22-1792 in Anne Arundel county MD. He married Mary Ann MURPHY (d/o Charles) on 3-30-1816 in Nelson county KY. Mary was born on 1-22-1794 in Nelson county KY. They migrated to Owen county in about 1825 settling in the Taylor twp area. They were the parents of 10 children all well documented. Mariah, James W., Milton, Milfred, Cinthia, Benjamin, Lucinda, Elizabeth, Rosella and Samuel. McKinney died on March 18, 1856 in Owen county although his place of burial has not been found it is thought to be Little Mount. Mary is found residing in the home of her daughter Lucinda and her husband Ludwell M. Combs in the 1860 census but she doesn't appear after that. Both Lucinda and Ludwell are buried in the Combs Cemetery with no apparent signs of Mary being buried near them. Lucinda and Ludwell died in 1895 and 1916 respectively so I am certain that Mary died before them. I would be most interested in any information pertaining to where this couple may be buried. 1. [INOWEN] Jonathan MASSEY/1773-possibly 1863/NC>TN>IN>KY
2. Searching for information on the family of Jonathan MASSEY b. about 1773 in NC who married Frankie DAVIS (daughter of John & Elizabeth) b. about 1779. They were married on November 2, 1797 in Grainger county TN. Jonathan is shown on the tax lists for Grainger county until 1805. He later appears on the census for 1820 & 1830 in Bourbon county KY. ( I believe this might be him) The years 1840 & 1850 show the family residing in Owen county IN. Jonathan and Frankie were the parents of 6 children that I know of. Issac b. 1807 TN m. Nancy Hooten (d/o Littleton & Anna) on 2-11-1830 Lucy b. 1809 KY m. John Evans (s/o David & Elizabeth) on 3-24-1831 Willis b. about 1813 KY m. Harriet Gillaspy (d/o Martin) on 10-6-1836 Jacob b. 10-6-1814 KY m. Jane Moderell on 3-22-1838 Elizabeth b. about 1816 in KY m. Emanuel Hooten (s/o Littleton & Anna) on 7-29-1838 Jane b. about 1824 KY m. Hiram Carter on 10-5-1839 All of these children married in Owen county IN. So I am inclined to think that the Jonathan MASSEY listed in Bourbon county KY in 1830-1840 census is not one and the same. This would also negate the thought that my Jonathan is the same as the one listed as buried in Paris, Bourbon county KY and died on December 4, 1863. However, my Jonathan dissappears from the Owen county IN census after 1850. It is thought that the line of my Jonathan is that his father is Thomas Massey b. about 1749 in NC; Thomas b. about 1738; Joseph b. about 1700-1705 MD; possibly William prior to that. However, I lack any proof and would love to be able to put this all together. Thanks for any assistance Wishing you ancestral searching success, Debbie Jennings Please check websites below: Sweet Owen County IN http://www.angelfire.com/in4/sweetowen/ Franklin CountyVermont Genweb Franklincounty VT

1. [INOWEN] Mary Susan Duncan/1856-1930/Morgan county> Monroe county IN
2. Mary Susan Duncan was born October 12, 1856 possibly in Morgan county IN as the place stated in her son's marriage application. She married Morris CARTER (son of John) b. 7-26-1851 on October 15, 1873 in Putnam county IN. Mary died on December 30, 1930 in Stinesville, Monroe county IN. Although my above references are Morgan and Monroe counties, I am of the thought that she was descended from the line of Freborn & Charity (Johns) Dunkin of Owen county through one of their many children. Several of their sons didn't remain in Owen county, but migrated to Morgan and Putnam counties. I am also looking a William L who was the son of Freborn and Charity and who married Martha Lloyd, however, I am open for any suggestions at all. Does anyone have a Duncan/Dunkin family who may have had a daughter Mary born in 1856?? 1. [INOWEN] John McCULLOUGH/1755-"about" 1837/38/PA>NC>TN>KY>IN
2. I am searching for information on what became of John McCullough b. June 17, 1755 in York county (later Lancaster) PA. He served numerous times in the RW and his migratory pattern is described in his petition for pension made in the October 1834 probate courts in Spencer. He migrated from PA to Mecklenburgh county NC about 1776 and then on to Cox County TN in 1787. He arrived in Pulaski county KY about 1790 and in shown there on tax records until about 1824 along with his sons. I would be most interested in corresponding with any researchers of Hugh BARNES, Andrew MODERELL, James M. ALLISON, or Thomas C. JOHNSON. I know the last two were a merchant and Clergyman in the Owen county area. I also know that the four men listed signed affidavits in court of their long acquaintance with John and the first two are mentioned living "within his neighborhood", whatever vast area that would have included in 1834. I am trying to determine by finding their places of residences just where my John may have resided and therefore might be buried. I have much info on this John McCullough should anyone else be researching this line. 2. Listmembers: I am passing this along for the benefit of everyone as I know many of you have, need, access Kentucky Vital Records. >From what has been able to be determined from the persons working closely with the Kentucky records, the Bill going through the Legislature is indeed true. I would advise anyone who is considering buying a CD with KY vitals on them to do so now as they will shortly be pulled from the markets. I would also advise anyone who is interested in these records to obtain any and all they can from any internet source in the very near future as apparently this Bill is affecting any of them being displayed also. 1. [INOWEN] for information purposes
2. Listmembers: This is just a heads up for everyone: The Kentucky Legislature is about to make some changes to the law concerning birth and death records in Kentucky making it harder to get copies. The only ones who can get a copy will be yourself, immediate family member, or authorized representative, i.e.. lawyer, doctor, funeral director. The biggest change is that the new law eliminates the INDEX for births and deaths. No part of the record may be obtained unless you can meet the criteria for obtaining a copy. The index will no longer be available online, on CD or in libraries. There is a provision for genealogists to get copies of births after 100 years and deaths after the person has been deceased for 50 years. If the person is still living, you must get permission from that person to obtain the certificate. What about someone who died in say, 1956? How will you get permission to receive a copy? House Bill HB 523 is currently in the Judiciary Committee. It will be voted on in the Kentucky Senate within a few days, perhaps as early as tomorrow. PLEASE, send a message to the Senators from Kentucky telling them how much we rely on these records for genealogical research. Genealogical tourism, including money spent for copies at the Office of Vital Statistics, Historical Societies, and Archives in Kentucky will be affected by this change. Money talks especially in these days of budget shortfalls.
