The Hancock family I am looking for: Catherine Hancock married Marion Brasket 12-22-1867 in Gosport, Owen County. I believe she was born about 1847 or 48 . The family was originally from Campbell County TN. Her father is William, no mother listed on the 1860 census of Campbell County. Did they move to Owen County after 1860???? William Hancock is listed with Catherine and Marion on the 1880 census Madison County. Any help would be appreciated. Carol

Bruce, I believe that if you are in a" really big hurry" to locate someone at Riverside Cemetery,,,,,,,,,you may contact the Owen Co. Library and have them do a lookup for you, or if you go online to the Owen Co. website there are voluteers there that will also do cemetery lookups. Owen County, Indiana or use the URL: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inowen/owenindx.html you will find the email add of both the Library and the lookup person on this website.......Good luck to you. > I am waiting for > someone to finish the Riverside Cemetery listing before I do any more > heavy lifting!!!! > N.J.Skinner White [email protected] "Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past." Bruce, and any other interested party. I know that Debbie works EVERYDAY on the Sweet Owen web page, along with 4 other web pages that she has. She is also administrator of a number of mail lists. As far as the Riverside Cemetery in Spencer... I believe that it runs to 144 pages, and I KNOW that she has asked for volunteers to help with the typing...I also know that she does devote some time to Riverside everyday... SINCE THIS IS A VOLUNTARY OPERATION, WE CANNOT VERY WELL DEMAND THAT SHE DEVOTE FULL TIME, EVERY DAY TO IT... You state that the site hasn't been updated since June 6...Well, gee, that is 6 days ago. She has been on vacation on 4 of those days...So I don't believe that we can fault her too much.(That doesn't mean she hasn't been working on it.) And, if you will notice, the Web page was updated on June 5, and before that of June 3, That is 3 out of 4 days...Come on, this is information available on the FIRST PAGE... I didn't check other pages... Anyone interested in helping with the typing of 144 pages of the Riverside Cemetery records would be a very welcome addition to her one person staff... Also, I did not say that I was not hearing from anyone. I said that there had been NO traffic on the list...I don't believe that traffic on the OWEN LIST has anything to do with whether Debbie's Web page has been updated or not. Dick Carter [email protected] >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>You wrote... Dick One of the reasons you aren't hearing from anyone is that your web site is not being updated. It hasn't been updated since June 6th this time and before that it hadn't been updated for a while. I am waiting for someone to finish the Riverside Cemetery listing before I do any more heavy lifting!!!! Bruce Davis
Can anyone out there help this lady. I cannot. Dick Carter [email protected] >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I am Maurine Denkewalter and my husband's great grandfather was Dr. Frederick William Denkewalter who owned the land of what is now McCormick's Creek state park. I have been to Spencer and to the Canyon Inn. Found lots of interesting material in the Spencer Library archives 20 years ago. I am once again back on the hunt for more information. Dr. D. has many relatives living in Ohio. His son, Fred, married Cora Ritter and she was from Owen Co. , too. I would like to piece the puzzle to-gether for future generations. I would appreciate any directions you could give to my project. Thank you. Maurine Denkewalter

My Owen County interest include: Galen Bray (my 2G grandfather) born 1828 his parents Moses Bray (my 3G grandfather) born ca. 1795 and Lucy Walker (my 3G grandmother) and his grandfather Arthinarius Bray (my 4G grandfather). Arthinarius may not have made it to Owen County. Moses and Lucy are probably buried in Owen County. Galen's brother Miles Bray - which at one time I was told was his father. Miles married Elizabeth Jane Crockett (daughter of David Crockett and Mary Ann Nosler) November 11, 1845. Other Owen County names are Letha Ann Slough (Galen's wife and my 2G grandmother) and her family Henry C. Slough (father), Drucilla Hale (mother), and Margaret Oliphant (grandmother).
