I'm looking for the family of Noah Henry REDNOUR b. ca1805/12 VA. >From family info it would seem that he parents /grandparents were from the Black Forest Region of Germany.....Alsace area of Germany. Also from the info I have obtained, Noah Henry was a Chairmaker by trade. I do not have a definate dod for him but believe it to be ca1863 time frame possibly in KY or VA, depending on who's family lore you listen to. Noah's age is a question as the census records I have on him are very different on his age.....he actually got younger by the years?? So that is a estimate of dob for him. The first record of Noah Henry I have is his marriage in Orange Co.IN: Permelia C. Haden......Noah Redenour......29 May 1845.....Bk.C-2 page 143 There is a second listing as such: Permelia Haden....Noah Redonowe....same date...bk.C3 page19.......so as you can see, the name can and was spelled many different ways. Permelia's name was HAYDEN and she was b. 25 Jan 1830 Mercer Co.KY. Were his parents living in Orange Co.IN or close by in another county?? Did they remain in VA?? Did he come to IN by himself?? They next lived in Monroe Co.IN, then moved on to their final home in Owen Co.IN, Franklin Twp, a town called Freedom,IN. If anyone has any ties to this line, I would like to hear from you and compare family information. thanks, N.J.Skinner White [email protected] "Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past." I received many, many responses... There seemed to be no particular reason for the pattern or destination of the migrants...Everything from Anti Slavery beliefs, Free or low cost land, Sickness at the old home, for their health,(Someone told them to get out of town) Wanderlust, religious beliefs,(Such as the Mormans) Some went because relatives had gone before them... The particular route chosen apparently was due to the roads or trails that existed, (the National Road, The buffalo Trace from Jeffersonville to Vincennes, etc.)There was a trail early that ran along what is now US231, from Rockport to Lafayette. I did not really come up with any new reasons for the group, follow the leader type, migrations. Perhaps I will in the future. Best regards, and thanks for the responses. Since the Hilsabeck and related families migrated from North Carolina to Owen Co, IN, what route were they likely to have taken? Also, a few generations later when the related families migrated from Owen Co to Iowa, what route were they likely to have taken then? Elizabeth Chain My family surnames are Hilsabeck, Fiscus, Arney, Ellsberry, Speas, Fulk, Volk, Geiger, Kiger, Hudspeth, Winters, Hartman, Boyles. ----- Original Message ----- From: Richard Carter Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2002 6:50 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [INOWEN] Re: Migration Trends I hope that everyone isn't as confused as I am... In doing my research, I have noticed a trend, as I am sure that you have. Migration from Ky to Owen Co.,Indiana, usually was from Nelson, Shelby, or Spencer Counties. With Shelby and Spencer being thru Nelson, apparently due to County line changes... If there was further migration, it seemed to nearly always be to Parke Co., In., to Vermillion Co., In., to Vermillion Co., Il, to Douglas Co., Il, to Edgar Co., Il, to Hancock Co., Il., and then to Keokuk or Washington Co., Ia. Can anyone explain this? Was it due to various land rushes, re;igious followings, or what? If there was a stop between Ky and Owen Co., In., can anyone tell me what county would be the most likely to have been "Visited"? Have I confused you? Or, am I only "tilting at windmills"? You should know though. The census noted she attended school within the year. If you are in need of other look-ups in either BBTwp (1850 or 1870) or in 1850 or 1860 Owen Co I can do that. I also have Mon Co Census Books for 1860-1880-1900 & 1920. Hope this helps. I am looking for information on these three names Kemmerer, Putnam, Tate. It is believed that they lived in Freedom, Owen County from 1863 to 1900. Any info would help. Sharon
Debbie, I think you're doing a wonderful job! ANYTHING you add to your Owen Co. website is greatly appreciated by me and, I am sure, by many others. As far as I am concerned, take your time and post the data at your leisure in any order you feel comfortable with. Thanks for providing so much data for Owen County researchers. Edna Beach
Listmembers: After getting home and attempting to get started back on this website, I am gathering that there has been some discussion as to posting on the mailing list versus updates on the website. One activity has nothing whatsoever to do with the other. This mailing list has been in operation long before I began the website and is a separate endeavor altogether; it just so happens that the two items work together. When I don't post to the website, nobody should cease searching for their ancestors... Although some people are avid about the completion of the Riverside cemetery on the site, there are other items of interest to be posted there also. I thought I had posted fairly alot to the list prior to leaving on vacation, but since that didn't include Riverside Cemetery listings; some consider no updating to be done. For what it is worth, there were 13 putnam county cemeteries added and 4 owen county cemeteries, plus twp histories and other items. In answer to questions I have had from volunteers: In order to be of assistance in transcribing this cemetery, you will need a copy of the Riverside cemetery listing. I cannot send this to you. For reference as to what is needed there, please check the webpage for that cemetery. Please don't suggest that I scan it and send to you as to do that I may as well just place on the site. My copy is not scanning well anyway. My goal here is to make the entries that will please the greatest amount of persons at one time. When I see 13-15 smaller/older cemeteries being posted as opposed to one section of Riverside, I will most often post the 13-15 cemeteries to help the most researchers. Riverside WILL get done, just NOT YESTERDAY. Debbie Jennings
