    1. [INOWEN] Celebrating the Fourth
    2. Debbjennings
    3. Listmembers: I would like to wish each of you a safe and happy 4th of July celebration. Myself, I will be celebrating with a family cookout. Please, however, in celebrating take a moment to remember the men who fought to make it possible to have this celebration. Many politicians are urging us currently to carry on with the celebrations to show our stand or defiance against the terrorists. I think it more appropriate to view the many deeds of our ancestors who fought the original wars, created the constitution, blazed the trails, fought the land and elements in order for us to enjoy the freedom and independence we enjoy today. Had it not been for the men fighting in the Revolutionary War or the War of 1812; perhaps our current lifestyle would be different. Their foresight in creating the constitution and the groundwork for the government we use today has allowed us this lifestyle. Their determination to fight to create a new country of America, many of them newly immigrated here from their home countries, is what I feel the true spirit of independence is all about..or always has stood for. For those of you who know you have ancestors who fought in these wars; Revolutionary War, War of 1812 please send me their names and which war and I will place a section of honor for them on our website. I need to receive them by Wednesday evening the 3rd of July. My own ancestors who deserve honor are: Andrew Evans, David Evans, Nathaniel Evans, John McCullough, Ephraim Goss, Frederick Goss, Jacob Goss, Jacob Rickard, Rhinehart Bott, William Asher, Bartlett Asher, William Warthen, Ebenezer Fain, Charles Murphy, Phillip Murphy, Hezekiah Murphy, George Nutterfield. So please remember your ancestors who gave you the original freedom. Debbie Debbie Jennings

    3. Listmembers: For a better guidance in placing some items on our website, it would be most helpful if everyone could let me know just what areas your ancestors came to Owen county from. Sometimes it is beneficial to have access to records from those areas also. I have a new section in mind, but need your help with this one. I know there is some strong German influences within Owen county but past that I am uncertain. For this just send me a PRIVATE email with the following info: SURNAME OTHER COUNTY/STATE (this can be multiple) COUNTRY OF ORIGIN I would prefer to place something on the website that is going to help other people, not just something for show. 3. Just a comment on 'youthening' as the years pass: As I'm sure you know, many of us do this. I would expect the earlier records to be the more accurate. Parents might forget a child's exact age, but the difference is likely to be slight. However, the reporting of an older fellow's age would likely be a reflection of his health and appearance - if he shaved some years off his age, he likely thought he could get away with the deceptioin, and if others reported his age as too young, it was probably because he was quite healthy and vigorous and gave the appearance of relative youth. Just a thought; I could be completely wrong. However, I have proof that my great-grandfather successfully shaved 8 years from his age; at 70 his co-workers thought he was 62, and his photos show he had an easy time in the lie. Elizabeth Chain researching Hilsabeck, Fulk, Volk, Fiscus, Arney, Elsberry, Duling, Speas, as well as Jordan, Hayes, Schenk, Williams, Gowen, Bull, Chain, Noaker ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, June 23, 2002 4:49 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [INOWEN] Noah Henry Rednour b. ca18-5/12 m Permelia Hayden I'm looking for the family of Noah Henry REDNOUR b. ca1805/12 VA. >From family info it would seem that he parents /grandparents were from the Black Forest Region of Germany.....Alsace area of Germany. Also from the info I have obtained, Noah Henry was a Chairmaker by trade. I do not have a definate dod for him but believe it to be ca1863 time frame possibly in KY or VA, depending on who's family lore you listen to. Noah's age is a question as the census records I have on him are very different on his age.....he actually got younger by the years?? So that is a estimate of dob for him. The first record of Noah Henry I have is his marriage in Orange Co.IN: Permelia C. Haden......Noah Redenour......29 May 1845.....Bk.C-2 page 143 There is a second listing as such: Permelia Haden....Noah Redonowe....same date...bk.C3 page19.......so as you can see, the name can and was spelled many different ways. Permelia's name was HAYDEN and she was b. 25 Jan 1830 Mercer Co.KY. Were his parents living in Orange Co.IN or close by in another county?? Did they remain in VA?? Did he come to IN by himself?? They next lived in Monroe Co.IN, then moved on to their final home in Owen Co.IN, Franklin Twp, a town called Freedom,IN. If anyone has any ties to this line, I would like to hear from you and compare family information. thanks, N.J.Skinner White [email protected] "Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past."
