I have been working to make it broader and more user friendly and versatile. I still have many more items to add this evening. However...currently we have: 1)A searchable Database for Births,Marriages,Deaths AND Divorces. 2) A new and private Chat Room!! It is free and easy to use, no downloading or anything. Simply go to the page and then after clicking on the link pick a name you would like to be known as in the chat room. You will be taken directly to the chat room. If your name is rejected, pick another, it just means someone else already has yours. This will be happening with some of the more common names so be creative. 3) A great section on the deteriorating cemeteries in our Counties has been added. As always any and all contributions are appreciated and only help us to be better. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rowan/index.html Debbie Jennings

However, I know that many of you are still plodding along there with your pedigrees. Lets have a roll call for everyone, we haven't had one in quite sometime. For the benefit of the new subscribers: A roll call is just a way of generating list activity and having everyone make a posting of queries at the same time. Let's run this roll call from today Friday August 9th till next Friday night August 16th at midnight. For all of you, please follow this format: 1.Subject Line: SURNAME/NAME OF PERSON/LOCATION/DATES Include as much pertinent info as you can and capitalize your surnames within the text. The more info (children, dates, locations) the better chance of making a connection. 2. Don't just hit reply in order to post, make a new posting. 3. Make as many as you wish, but try to limit a post to one person/family to lessen confusion in your posts. 4. Answer any and all possible posts you can in order to help someone else. DON'T PUT JUST "ROLL CALL" IN THE SUBJECT LINE 5. Please put something in the body besides: Looking for Smith or Looking for Wayne Johnson That doesn't tell anybody anything about him/them. Good Luck to all Ready....Set.....Post!! Debbie Jennings

    3. Bill It is my experience that in the records there are mispellings and sometimes you get lucky and they put the correct one there also for your own judgment, most times they don't and some are very badly spelled. Debbie

    3. Are these all the same? In the WPA Marriage Index, there are two listings for the same individual, but different spellings of both surnames - Straley Mary J to Jacob H Spease or Staley Mary J to Jacob H Sheese Marriage occurred in 1876. Then in the WPA Marriage Transcript Index, there is a listing for a Pauline Strahley, who was the daughter of Henry D, and Susanna Scease, who married William Denny in 1894. Is this a family whose name has been mangled and what is the most common way of spelling it if you wanted to search for it? My main interest is in the Strahle family in Owen Co and these folks seem to enter it twice. Bill Strahle

    3. Hi, Can anyone help me with the denomination of Old Dutch Bethel? I've been looking at various church histories for Owen. There seem to be many churches that call themselves Bethel....Somewhere I've acquired the idea that Old Dutch Bethel was a "German" church, but most of the references I see are to Christian - Disciples of Christ church. I'm confused. Judy

    3. For those new to the roots web and those of you veterans I would like to say that there are many folks who subscribe that are willing to do what they can to help others in their research. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 1743 prisoners of war on record from the state of Indiana and about 700 who died here, I thought I would send my offer. I also do the research for any prisoners from any state that were here. Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of mispellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. Please do not concider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once. Please email me directly for lookup request at [email protected] I also take grave photos for a small fee that covers my cost. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask.
