Hello! I am researching the Coltrain family. I have found Solomon Coltrain/Coltrane (1800-1882) in several places in Montgomery County in the census, as well as in the index for first land owners in Montgomery County (via the excellent county website--thank you Karen!). In the 1850 census I found him with his wife 'Esther'. They are listed as being born in North Carolina, and I believe I found their North Carolina marriage indexed online, but the names read Solomon Coltrane and Hester Andrew, who I have seen it rumored online, later moved from NC to Indiana. I am looking for a solid link to verify that Solomon and Hester from the marriage record are the Solomon and Esther in my line in Indiana. I have not been able to access any birth or death information for either of them, nor marriage records for their children (their daughter Mary Jane's marriage to George W Anderson is indexed on the county website, but I do not have the record itself) to verify the mother's name. I am hoping anyone knows of any records that may give me that additional information! You might check to see what she has ! ===== As per Hester and Esther they are very interchangeable names - actually one in the same in that time frame !! I have a Hesther Helms in my own family that I've found many times listed as Esther (even in the bible but marriage and tombstone say Hesther). Noted they had 4 daughters and a son in the 1840 census. 1850 you have lists just the 4 daughters and not positive those are the same 4. ============ Do you know who this Coltrain is? His grounds are that she continually found fault with and finally abandoned him May 1912. It is stated in the complaint they were married Dec 20, 1911.
