That's an awesome story! I can imagine going from School 80 to one of the Township schools out in the country (LOL since it's not country anymore!) It would certainly be tough! Thanks for the story, Suzy Suzy, that's terrific! I have to admit that this was not a genealogy question, but Katherine Wert was my absolute favorite teacher in junior high school. She was my English teacher and the librarian, and began my lifelong love of Georgette Heyer by lending me "Arabella." I knew her husband was Quentin, but I had forgotten it until you reminded me. She told me that her husband's family lived near mine. We never went into detail. I have to tell you why she was my favorite. In seventh grade I moved from the city schools to the county: in School 80 the teachers had casually mentioned that there were such things as nouns. In John Strange School, outside the city, the seventh graders were diagraming compound-complex sentences with verbals. We were six weeks from the end of the year, and I was supposed to pass a year exam on this? Fortunately for me, Mrs. Wert offered to teach me while I waited for "third bus" at 3:45 -- and I passed. I think there were two or three abstruse points of English grammar that I learned later from other people ... but essentially, she taught me the language. She was a dear lady, and I was a lucky kid! She was older than I thought -- interesting. Teachers are ageless, of course!
