Crawfordsville Journal Review 10-23-1951 - Mrs. Gladys Allen Shoaf, 53, wife of Carl A. Shoaf of Crawfordsville psot office staff died at 6:50 o'clock Tuesday morning at Culver Hospital where she had been a patient two days. Born April 24, 1898 in Parke County, Mrs. Shoaf was the daughter of Joseph Franklin Allen and Rhoda Lee McMullin Allen. She married Carl A. Shoaf June 28, 1924. She was a member of the First Christian church. The family home is 203 W. Chestnut Street. Mrs. Shoaf's parents came to Crawfordsville in 1905. The father died in 1910, the mother 1922. Mrs. Shoaf who was associated with a number of the city's business houses, was employed at Bischof Store several years. Later she was associated with the farm loan branch of the Mutual benefit Insurance Company, the Bell Telephone Office, Crawfordsville Trust & Security Abstract. Mrs. Shoaf was a graduate of Crawafordsville HS. She also received her elementary school education here. Surviving besides the husband are a brother, William M. Allen of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. D. C. Livengood of Jacksonville, Ill; two uncles, Jesse McMullin of Rockville and Charles McMullin of California and two nieces, Mrs. Thurman J. Gates of yardley, Pa and Karen Lee Allen of Indianapolis. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock thursday afternoon at First Christian Church, Rev. Paul E. Million pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church one hour preceding the rites. Friends may pay their respects at Bright Funeral Home.
