And thanks to you! Actually, he did have a middle name -- William Henry Erskine, son of Michael Erskine and Rebecca Parks Erskine. (You have his half-brother George Erskine's obit on the website.) It would make life easier if we all used this style: Rebecca (Parks) Erskine for women's maiden names. Or should I say, unmarried names? I'm not big on politically-correct language, I guess. So I propose the style change -- but I'll be the first to complain if it ever becomes standard -- I'm one of those who use my maiden name between my given name and my husband's surname. I can see inserting parenthese every time I write my signature -- NOT. Incidentally, and I know what the obit says is what it says, the year of the marriage is one year off: according to the WPA transcription of Boone County's marriage records, Will and Forrest were married in 1898, not 1897.
