Crawfordsville Daily Journal, Wednesday, July 8, 1908 JACKSON NEWKIRK DEAD Died at Danville, Ill., Tuesday To Be Brought Here For Burial Jackson Newkirk, a former citizen and a veteran of the civil war, died at the home of his son, Herbert Newkirk of Danville, Ill., Tuesday. The deceased was born August 2, 1833, and was for many years a resident of this county. At the outbreak of the civil war he enlisted as a member of the Co. F. Second Colorado Cavalry. During the war he received several wounds which disabled him for life. The remains will be brought to this city at noon Thursday over the Big Four road and will be taken directly to Masonic cemetery for internment. The funeral services will be in charge of the Masons, Elwood Newkirk, of this city, is a son of the deceased.
