Crawfordsville Weekly Journal 25 Jan 1918 p 2 -- The final gloom occured by the death of one of Montgomery County's enlisted men settled Monday following the telegram received that morning announcing the death of Aetna Elmore at San Antonio, Texas. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Elmore of New RIchmond and had been sick only a few days with pneumonia. It was not until the last of the week that his paernts were information of the lad's serious condition and the subsequent death came as a severe shock to his family and friends. The youthful soldier had enlisted his service only 8 weeks ago with a Benton County unit. He was serving as an enlisted carpenter. At the time of his enlistmenet he was only 18 years old having turned 19 just last Saturday Jan 19. Prior to his enlistment he was engaged in farming. Besides his parents, young Elmore is surviving by three brothers, Sherman, Glenn and Garland. He died at the camp hospital Sunday and the telegram of his death reached his paernts Monday.
