Sept. 6, 1960 (source unknown) - Former County Resident Dies- LAFAYETTE- Lester M. Rafferty, 61, died at 11:55 a.m. Tuesday in Methodist Hospital at Rochester, Minn., after a two-week illness. He underwent surgery a week ago. Mr. Rafferty was born Sept. 10, 1898 and lived in the New Richmond and Linden Communities before moving here 15 years ago. He was married to Velva L. McCormick. He was a graduate of the Wingate schools and had been employed by Purdue University the past three years. Prior to that he was a guard at Michigan City and Putnamville State Prisons and worked one year t the Alcoa Aluminum plant here during World War II. Mr. Rafferty was a member of the Elmdale Church and was a 15-year member of the New Richmond F&AM Lodge. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Leland C. of Crawfordsville; Charles L. of Auburn, N. Y. and Lester Rafferty Jr. of Lafayette; a daughter, Mrs. Paul Brandlein of Indianapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Brenna and Mrs. Paul Hardin, both of Crawfordsville; three brothers, Leslie A. of Logansport, Clarence of Crawfordsville and Kenneth Rafferty of Waveland and two grandsons. They body will be brought to the Hippensteel Funeral Home here. Funeral arrangements are pending.
