Crawfordsville Journal Review, 30-Apr-1964, 4: 2- Bettie F. Hopping Dies In Hospital; Rites Wednesday- Miss Bettie F. Hopping, 84, of 310 S. Washington St., died at 5:45 p.m. Monday in Culver Hospital where she had been a patient four weeks. She was born Aug. 6, 1879 on a farm near Yountsville, daughter of Joseph B. and Mary Berkshire Hopping. Miss Hopping attended Troutman Grade School near Yountsville and graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1899. After graduation from high school, she returned to her parents' farm where she cared for her mother, father and two brothers, Benjamin and John. After their deaths, she came to Crawfordsville where she lived with a cousin, Sarah Hornbaker. She was a member of Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star, Dorothy Q. Chapter of DAR and Betsy Ross Social Club. Her only survivors are four cousins, Ben Berkshire of Indianapolis, Mrs. Ruie Martin of Baker, Mont., Mrs. Gladys Henderson of Winnetka, Ill. and Miss Hornbaker, with whom she made her home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home here with Dr. John G. DeKruyter officiating, assisted by Rev. Guy E. Tremaine. Interment will be in Wesley Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Tuesday.
