Crawfordsville Journal Review 7-Dec-1962 4- Martha Crowder Succumbs At 42 In Culver Hospital- DARLINGTON- Mrs. Martha Crowder, 42, a resident of Darlington for many years, died Friday morning in Culver Hospital where she had been a patient 11 days. She was born July 7, 1920, in Spencer and her parents were Frank and Ella Cain Ashley. On Jan. 18, 1956, she married Norman Crowder in Michigantown. She was a graduate of Spencer High School and a Frankfort beauty school. She operated beauty shops in Darlington and Jamestown and worked at Allison’s in Indianapolis before her marriage. She also worked at the A & P Grocery Store in Crawfordsville. Her husband is an employe of the R. R. Donnelley & Sons Co. in Crawfordsville. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Spencer. Survivors include her husband; her mother; two daughters, Ann and Gwen at home; two brothers, James Ashley of Indianapolis and Earl Ashley of Spencer; a sister, Mrs. Harold Ellett of Bloomington; two aunts, Mrs. Harold Bymaster and Mrs. Frank Quisenberry of Crawfordsville, and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her father and an infant brother. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the Bright Funeral Home in Darlington with Rev. Harry Odell of Michigantown and Rev. James R. Dickey of Darlington officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Saturday.
