Kim, I went to the Journal ReviewaArchives and read the only two articles I could find. I couldn't find a link to old letters to the editor, though there may be one. The news articles included a report of the work of Helen Wildermuth, cemetery restorationist, who appears to have done much of the work. The other article said that the township trustee had contracted the work before the township advisory board had approved the expenditure of $500,000. I am very much in favor of restoring cemeteries. I know Helen Wildermuth, who used to live a few blocks from me, and I have written grants which have been used to hire her and another restorationist to partially restore a cemetery in Parke County, where I am a trustee. I have located a "lost" cemetery in Scott Twp, Montgomery County. I say these things so that you will understand I am totally in sympathy with restoration and the obligations of various persons, including township trustees, to maintain cemeteries. However, I think we should understand as many of the facts as possible before writing letters to the editor. I don't think the two features mentioned above list all the facts on this specific situation needed to write an info rmed letter on one side or the other of this argument . Please tell us more, if you have that information. Sharon Mills

Sharon Mills Well I guess you missed a few then, if you type in cemetery, then maybe you only get a few hits, expand your search. I have read over 10 of them. There is an apology from one of the "men of the cloth" for jumping the gun so to speak. I just want public awareness, and to let people know that there are also those of us who appreciate what Nevitt has done for the cemeteries. The problem here is ignorance in the fact that many people are expressing their disbelief that she spent money to do this and in fact it is under Indian code to do exactly what she did. I want people that are not from around here, but have ancestors buried here in the cemeteries to be aware of what is going on. letter to the editor "Disappointed in Attack on Union Township Trustee" January 11 2011 Kim On Sat, Jan 22, 2011 at 12:54 PM, <[email protected]> wrote: > > > > Kim, > > > > I went to the Journal ReviewaArchives and read the only two articles I > could find. Jeff, You are so right!! We genealogist's are the historians. Thank god we care about who are ancestors are and where we came from. I'm afraid if it was left to the government we would all be pretty sad and depressed. We must all stick together. But most important we must remember to share whatever small piece of information we may have. I'll say one thing about us "Genealogist's" we are the most helpful group of people. We are always willing to check on something for someone else or make that copy at the local library. We truly are a great group of people. Kim, Thank you for your hard work and dedication. I have many ancestors from Indiana. Including my gg grandfather who was in the 100th Indiana. It's people like you and anyone else who has pride and devotion to their "past" family members that will help to keep our great country alive with the true American spirit. God bless and never give up the fight for what is right!!
