Born in Fountain County, her parents were Voleny and Pearl Furr Long. She was married to Clarence N. Alvey, Dec. 24, 1928, in Clermont. She was a member of the Ingersoll Chapel Christian Church. Surviving is the husband, Clarence N. Alvey. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Walker Funeral Home in Jamestown, Rev. Stanley Hicks will officiate. Crawfordsville Journal Review 27-Oct-1962 5- Ladoga Services Will Be Held For Mrs. Lola Kessler- LADOGA- Mrs. Lola Winifred Kessler, a former Montgomery County resident who has lived in Michigan City 22 years and has been ill for 15 years, died at Michigan City Friday night. She was 59. She was born Aug. 19, 1903, at Russellville; was president of the 1922 graduating class at Waveland High School and was married Aug. 19, 1925, at Ladoga to Neil Kessler. Her parents were Morton and Mary Jockey Dykes. Mrs. Kessler was a past chief of Pythian Sisters and was a member of the First Christian Church at Michigan City, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday. Services will also be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Ladoga Christian Church. The officiating minister at both services will be Rev. Robert Green, pastor of the Michigan City church. Burial will be in the Ladoga Cemetery. Survivors include the husband, who lives at Michigan City; a daughter, Mrs. Delores Murray of Michigan City; a sister, Mrs. Lillian Cord of Crawfordsville, and five grandchildren. Crawfordsville Journal Review 4-Nov-1962 12- Ruel Ray Moore Expires At Home- Ruel Ray Moore, former Crawfordsville Electric Light & Power Co. employee who went to work for the State Highway Department two years ago, died suddenly about 2 a.m. Saturday at his home, 1010 W. Main St. He was 59. Moore was a member of the Elks, Eagles, the Masonic Lodge at Waynetown and was a member of the Sportsmen’s Club for many years. He was born March 5, 1903, near Waynetown. His parents were Nathaniel and Bessie Patton Moore. He was married April 17, 1930, to Maxie E. Sering. Survivors include his wife; a stepson, David Sering of Mansfield, Ohio; a stepgrandson; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Schenck of Waynetown and Mrs. Josephine Buettner of Santa Monica, Calif.; two brothers, Arthur and Julian Moore, both of Sacramento, Calif., and a half-sister, Effie Blankenship of Crawfordsville. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hunt & Son funeral Home with Rev. John Servies officiating. Burial will follow in the Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 17-Dec-1962 3- Mrs. Grenard, 87, Waynetown, Dies- WAYNETOWN- Mrs. Nellie Grenard, 87, a member of the pioneer Waynetown family, died Sunday in the Knights of Pythias Home at Lafayette where she had been a guest 18 months. The widow of Charles Grenard, former principal of the Waynetown school, Mrs. Grenard was active in church and community affairs most of her life. She was a member of the Waynetown Baptist Church and had served the church as organist for several years. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Knights of Pythias Home Chapel. Burial will be at the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Lafayette.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 14-Dec-1962 3- Floyd D. Weir, 64, Dies In Florida- NEW MARKET- Floyd D. Weir, 64, died suddenly Thursday at his home in Venice, Fla. His death was caused by a heart attack. Weir was born Oct. 20, 1898, in Benton County, the son of Howard and Carrie Miles Weir. Weir was educated in New Market schools. Prior to living in Florida, Weir was foreman of a manufacturing plant in Detroit. He was a member of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Roseville Masonic Lodge and Moslem Temple, all of Detroit. Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Dorothy Weir; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Verna Weir, and a niece, Mrs. Mabel E. Case, both of Crawfordsville. A brother, Elmer Weir, preceded him in death. The body will be taken to the Noble Reeves Funeral Home at New Market with services to be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery at Crawfordsville. Crawfordsville Journal Review 9-Feb-1962 8- Alamo Farmer, 67, Dies At His Home; Services Sunday- ALAMO- Clarence (Hap) Pearson, 67, suffered a fatal heart attack at 1:10 p.m. Thursday at his home here. He was born Feb. 18, 1894, in Illinois, a son of John and Christena Pearson. He was married Feb. 12, 1919 to Ruby Hudson. They were married at Waveland. A farmer, he was a member of the Yountsville Methodist Church and had made his home in this community the past 18 years. He was a former employee of the Old Citizens Garage in Crawfordsville. His wife is postmaster here. Survivors include his wife; a son, Carl Pearson of Florida; a daughter, Mrs. Joyce Cowherd of Rt. 4, Crawfordsville; two brothers, Roy E. Pearson of Leesburg, Fla. And Lee J. Pearson of Kirklin, Wash.; three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Macy of Lafayette, Mrs. Iva Lane of West Lafayette and Mrs. Leona Smith of Battle Ground; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown. Rev. Guy E. Tremaine will officiate. Interment will be in the Alamo Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Saturday.

Masters, 92, former farmer here, died Sunday in a hospital at Louisville, Ky., where he had resided since leaving the Waynetown community. The funeral and burial were held at Nicholasville, Ky. He had a short illness.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 23-Jul-1963 6- Mrs. Schell Dead At 98- West Virginia Native Dies In Nursing Home- Mrs. Alice J. Schell, 98, died at the Bowles Nursing Home Monday evening. She had lived for many years with a son, Wade, of Rt. 1 Darlington, before moving to the nursing home on September 23 of last year. She had been bedfast since January. Mrs. Schell was born March 23, 1865 in Grant County, W. Va., the daughter of Charles and Susan Veatch. She married Israel Schell in West Virginia, and they moved to Tippecanoe County in 1905. Mr. Schell owned a farm near Kirkpatrick until his death in 1919. Mrs. Schell had lived with her son since 1922. She was the last of her family, having been preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Survivors, beside her son, include one grandson, a granddaughter, and six great-grandchildren. She had been preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Douglas. Private funeral services will be held at Bright Funeral Home, Darlington, at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. John T. Waye, of the Congregational Christian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery south of Lafayette. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Nov. 6, 1963, Source unknown- Mother Of County Resident Is Dead- WAYNETOWN- Mrs. Silla Tinnell, 63, mother of Mrs. Lucille Groce of Waynetown, died at 11:45 Wednesday at Nashville, Tenn., where she lived. Death was due to pneumonia and a heart ailments. Mrs. Tinnell had visited in Waynetown a number of times in the past several years. The survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Groce, Mrs. Floyd Taylor of Alexandria, Va., and Mrs. Otis Doney and Mrs. Christine Rader, both of Nashville, as well as a number of grandchildren. She was preceded in death by the husband, two daughters, and a son. Mrs. Groce and her son have gone to Nashville where funeral services are pending. Other members of the Groce family will go to Nashville later.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 15-Sep-1962 3- Mary Faust, 84, Dies In Hospital After Long Illness- Mrs. Mary Faust, 84, 406 E. College St., died Saturday morning in Culver Hospital. She had been ill for several months. Her parents were James and Ida Collins and she was born Feb. 2, 1878 in Opalaca, Ala. Her first marriage was to John Black and in 1924 she was married to R. B. Faust. Both preceded her in death. Mrs. Faust had lived in this community since 1923. She was a member of the Alvarado, Okla., Christian Church. She is survived by two sons, James and Jewel Black of Crawfordsville; two daughters, Mrs. John Moody and Mrs. Elmer Wood, both of Crawfordsville; a sister, Mrs. Clara Kelly of Earth, Tex.; a brother, Terry Collins of Sanger, Tex.; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Hunt & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Crawfordsville Journal Review 3-Oct-1963 4:8- Arthur W. Miller Succumbs at 82 At His Home Here- Arthur W. Miller, 306 E. Franklin St., died Wednesday evening at his home. Mr. Miller, who observed his 82nd birthday Tuesday, was born Oct. 1, 1881 southwest of Crawfordsville, son of Charles and Anne Elliott Miller. He was married Oct. 19, 1912 to Bessie White. He was employed for 28 years by Indiana Bell Telephone Co. before retiring in 1938. He later was employed by Crawfordsville Electric Light & Power, retiring in 1955. He was a member of First Christian Church and was a lifelong member of Bell Telephone Pioneers. Survivors include the widow; two sons, Lee of near New Ross and Orin of Ladoga; two daughters, Miss Ida Miller of Reno, Nev. And Mrs. Martha Trosper of Crawfordsville; a sister, Mrs. Nettie Sayler of Indianapolis and nine grandchildren. The body is at Hunt & Son Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 11-Oct-1963 6:1- Clo Richardson Dies In Hospital; Rites Saturday- Clo D. Richardson, 73, 108 N. Grant Ave., died at 2:25 p.m. Thursday in Culver Hospital here. He had been in failing health several months and seriously ill two days. Mr. Richardson was a mechanic and operated a service station at Mooresville a number of years before moving here with his wife, Esther in 1958. He was a veteran of World War I and was a charter member of the American Legion Post at Mooresville. Born Jan. 9, 1890 in Hendricks County, he was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Richardson. He was married Dec. 24, 1923 to Esther Robertson, who survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Joan Kale and Mrs. Jack Haught, both of Mooresville; a sister, Mrs. Kenneth Thompson of Speedway; and four grandchildren. Funeral services are announced for 2 p.m. Saturday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with Rev. John Servies officiating. Interment will be in Indian Creek Hill Cemetery. Linn, 80, who practiced law in this community for the last 53 years, was found dead at his home Saturday afternoon. He had died in his sleep during the night or early morning. Mr. Linn had been at his law office Friday. He was born in Mace Sept. 8, 1883, a son of John W. and Anna Martin Linn. He was married to Elizabeth Graham in 1908. His second marriage was in 1937 to Marie Miller. Both are deceased. Surviving are a son, Dr. Graham Linn of Cleveland, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Evans of Virginia City, Mont.; a sister, Miss Laila Linn of Crawfordsville, and seven grandchildren. Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Mr. Linn was a graduate of Mace High School and Wabash College and attended the Columbia University Law School. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and a past president of its House Association. He was a member of the Montgomery County and Indiana State Bar Association. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Mr. Linn served two termed as prosecuting attorney here. Funeral services are set for 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Hunt & Son Funeral Home, where friends may call. Rev. W. Goddard Sherman will officiate, and interment will be in Masonic Cemetery.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 17-Dec-1962 3- Harvey Runyon, Alamo, Dies In Culver Hospital- ALAMO- Harvey Runyon, 80, died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville. He had been seriously ill since suffering a stroke four weeks ago. Mr. Runyon, a farmer, had lived in this area the past 33 years. He moved to Indiana from Fairmount, Ill. 42 years ago. He was a member of the Alamo Christian Church and an elder in the church. He was born Dec. 8, 1882, in Fairmount, a son of George and Adaline Barnes Runyon. He was married March 31, 1909 to Goldia E. See. They were married at Danville, Ill. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Orville of Danville, Ill., George of Fort Worth, Tex., Louis of Tulsa, Okla., Gerald of Clay City and Cmdr. Donald Runyon, who is serving in the U. S. Naval Air Force; a daughter, Mrs. Thelma L. Howard of near Wingate; 16 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. Crawfordsville Journal Review 3-Dec-1962 6- Mrs. Eva Gibson Of Near Alamo Dies In Hospital- ALAMO- Mrs. Eva Marcella Gibson, 52, who resided three miles northeast of here, died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday in Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville where she had been a patient since Thanksgiving day. She had been in failing health since October of 1961. Mrs. Gibson had lived in this area since 1949. She was a member of the Alamo Christian Church. Born Dec. 28, 1909 in Whitt, Montgomery County, Ill.; she was a daughter of Oliver and Maude Whittman. She received her education at Whitt. On June 26, 1948 she married John Robert Gibson at Whitt. Mr. Gibson is an engineer and is employed by Purdue University. Survivors include her husband; and two sisters, Miss Dorothy Whittman and Miss Cletta Whittman, both of Whitt. She was preceded in death by her parents, twin sons and twin sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. (EST) Tuesday at Servies Funeral home in Waynetown. Rev. Morris Finch, pastor of the Alamo Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Irving Cemetery at Whitt where graveside rites will be conducted at 4 p.m. (EST). Crawfordsville Journal Review 30-Nov-1962 3- Myrtle Bowerman, Age 83, Of Alamo, Dies In Hospital- ALAMO- Mrs. Myrtle Ida Bowerman, 83, lifetime resident of the Alamo vicinity, died Friday morning at 5 o’clock in Culver Hospital. She was admitted to the hospital Oct. 5 with a broken hip. Death was due to heart failure. Mrs. Bowerman was born Jan. 14, 1879, in Fountain County. Her parents were Hiram and Mary Krout Roberts. She was married to John Bowerman at Alamo on Nov. 4, 1897. She was a member of the Yountsville Methodist Church. Her schooling was received in Fountain County. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Bowerman of Alamo who is the Waynetown High School basketball coach and John Bowerman of Crawfordsville, officers of the First National Bank & Trust Co.; two daughters, Mrs. Anne E. Brown and Mrs. Ida Selby of Alamo; a sister, Mrs. Ransom McKee of Veedersburg; a step mother, Mrs. Ada Roberts of Veedersburg, and 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown. Rev. Clarence Loveland of Crawfordsville and Rev. Crawfordsville Journal Review, Wednesday, 13-Jun-1962 4- Grace Melvin Of Alamo Succumbs; Funeral Friday- ALAMO- Mrs. Grace Adeline Melvin, 82, a resident of Alamo since 1927, died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Sanders Nursing Home at Mecca, where she had resided since last November. Born June 10, 1880, at Galesburg, Ill., Mrs. Melvin was the daughter of Franklin and Bertha Welsh Jones. She received her early education in Galva, Ill., and attended Wesley Business College in Salina, Kan. Mrs. Melvin was married Aug. 12, 1906, to Augusta F. Melvin at Paola, Kan. He died in February 1927. The deceased was a member of the Yountsville Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 498 at Alamo. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Thom Bowerman of Alamo; three sons, Harold Melvin, 605 Walnut St., Crawfordsville, Howard Melvin of Rt. 1 Waynetown, and Leland (Bill) Melvin of Clinton; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Hayes of Downey, Calif. and Mrs. Ada Dunn of Bakersfield, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Richard Coon in 1940; a son, Charles Melvin in 1920; a sister, Mrs. Lollie Morraine, and a brother, Wallace Jones. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown in charge of Rev. Guy E. Tremaine. Burial will be in the Alamo Cemetery. Market St., a resident of Crawfordsville for 20 years, died Wednesday morning at Culver Hospital. She had been in failing health for several months. She was born Oct. 18, 1886, in Montgomery County and her parents were Thomas L. and Anna McCormick Mason. On Oct. 18, 1907, she married Andrew C. Jackson. They lived north of Crawfordsville for several years before moving here 20 years ago. She was a member of the Youngs Chapel Christian Church. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Edith Quisenberry of near Brownsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Reed of Danville, Ill., and Mrs. Mae Thomas of Lafayette; a brother, Walter Mason of Marion, and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Hunt and Son Funeral Home with Rev. John Servies officiating.
