Crawfordsville Journal Review Dec 27, 1938 p 8 - Waynetown Dec 26 - Mrs. Rhoda Fruits, 74, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Cruea, southeast of here ont he yountsville Road at 10 o'clock Monday monring following a serious illness of 3 weeks duration with heart trouble. Born in Ripley Twp, near Alamo, Feb 28, 1864, Mrs. Fruits was the daughter of David and Mary J. Cedars Shaffer. On Feb 16, 1888 she was married to George K. Fruits who expired on Oct 12, 1919. She spent all of her life in Montgomery and Fountain Counties. She was a member of the UB Church. Surviving in addition to the daughter at whose home she died are two daughters, Mrs. Wilbur Smith of Indianapolis; Mrs. Iola Berryman, Oak Hill, Mo; two sons, Omer Fruits, Rockville, and Walter Fruits, Danville, Ill; 3 sisters, Mrs. Ella Nixon, Waynetown; Mrs. Sarah Waggoner, Montezuma; and Mrs. Florence Ruffer, Hornersville, Mo; two brothers, Howard Shaffer, Covington and Wallace Shaffer, Veedersburg; 11 grandchildren and 3 greats. Funeral services will be held Wed afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at Waynetown Baptist Church with Rev. JC Overman in charge; burial in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
Crawfordsville Journal Reveiw 16 Jan 1936 --Mrs. Rozella Fruits, widow of Jonathan Fruits, passed away at the home of her son, Ollie Fruits, 310 W. Pike Street Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. She had been ill for seven years. Mrs. Fruits was 5 years (?) of age and was born at Wayentown. She had been a resident of Crawfordsville 26 years and was a member of the Waynetown Methodist Church. Surviving are two sons, Walter Fruits of Waynetown and Ollie Fruits of this city at whose home she died and two brothers, John Keyes of Veedersburg and Jason Keyes of Waynetown. The husband and a son, Vernie ordained minister of the Methodist Church preceded her in death. The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Crawfordsville Journal 10-20-1930 = Wayneotwn, Oct 19 - Mrs. Jerusha Ann Fruits, 80, widow of the late Ambrose Fruits died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William A. Brown in Kokomo, Saturday monring at 10:30. Death was due to chronic nephritis and followed an extended illness. The deceased who was a life long resident of Wayne Twp was born near Waynetown Aug 12, 1850, daughter of James and Hannah Barnett Hoff. She was united in marriage on Aug 17, 1871 to Ambrose Fruits whose death occurred last march. Mrs. Fruits was a member of the Christian Union Church southeast of Waynetown. The survivors are 3 daughters, Mrs. Brown at whose home she died, Mrs. Perry A. Brannan of Linden and Mrs. AD Harpel of near Shanondale. Five grandchildren and 3 greats also survive. The remains were brought to the home of Mrs. Harpel near SHannondale. Funeral services will be conducted at the Christian Union Church SW of here Tuesday monring at 10:30 with Rev. McMullen in charge. Burial will take place in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
Crawfordsville Journal Review 3 march 1930 -- Waynetown, March 2 - Ambrose FRUITS, 81, well known resident of this place died suddenly at his home south of here Sundaya fternoon at 2 o'clock. Although he had been in failing health for some time, he was not considered seriously ill. Heart trouble caused his death. The deceased was born near Waynetown on Feb 27, 1848, the son of George and Lizzie Harlow Fruits. He was married on August 17, 1871 to Jerusha Ann Moss. (sic). He was a member of the Christian Union Church and of Odd Fellows' lodge. He spent his entire life in Montgomery Co. The widow, 3 daughtesr, Mrs. AD Harpel of near Crawfordsville; Mrs. Bertha Brannon of Linden and Mrs. Will Brown of Kokomo; one brother, Goerge of Indianapolis, one half brother, Bert and one half -sister, Serentha of North Judson'; 5 grandchildren and 3 greats survive. Funeral services will be held on Tues morning at 10:30 o'clock at the home of Rev. McMullen of Indianapolis in charge. Burial will be at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
Crawfordsville Daily Journal -18 April 1928 Waynetown, April 18 - Mrs. Susan Lenora Fruits passed away this morning at her home near Alamo after two weeks illness with smallpox and bronchial hemorrhage. She was born on March 17, 1856 near Peru, Ind and was united in marriage 64 year ago to Noah Fruits. Mrs. Fruits had spent all of her life in Indiana and all her married life near Alamo. She was a member of the Ridge Farm United Brethren CHurch. She is survived by her husban,d four sons, Merit J and Delmar K. Fruits of Waynetown Fred Fruits of Alamo and Charles Fruits of New Richmond and 11 grandchildren. If the weather permits, short funeral services will be held Friday at 2 o'clock from the veranda at home. NO one will be allowed to enter the house. Those who wish to pay their respectsand view the body may do so by calling at the home as the body will lie in state near the window ont he day of the funeral until time for the services. Rev. John Servies will be in charge of the services with interment at Waynetown Cemetery.
Crawfordsville Daily Journal 17 Oct 1919 - Alamo, Oct 18 - George K. Fruits, an aged farmer of this vicinity, was found dead by his grandson two miles north of Alamo yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Apoplexy is given as the cause of the sudden death. Mr. Fruits the son of John and Rebecca Keys Fruits was born Feb 11, 1846. He was married to miss Rhoda Shafer Feb 16, 1888. While he was not a member of any particular church he was a regular attendant and was a member of the Masonic fraternity for 43 years; his lodge is located at Alamo. He is survived by his widow, five children, Omer Fruits who lives at home; Ida and Lydia Fruits also live at home; Jesse who lives in Crawfordsville and Mrs. Effie Smith of Roachdale and one brother, Noah Fruits. Mr. Fruits was one of the most beloved citizens of this community. He was a good man in every respect. His death is the cause of considerable sorrow among those who knew him. The funeral will be held at the home Wed afternoon at 2 o'clock with the masons in charge. The Rev. PO Duncan of Waynetown Baptist Church will assist in the ceremony.
Crawfordsville Daily Journal Sept 24, 1904 p 4 - William Fruits, an aged citizen of Waynetown died at his home Friday evening at 7 o'clock. He had been ill for some time, having taken his bed just one year ago. Mr. Fruits had spent his entire life of 72 years in this county, having been born in Ripley Twp where he lived until 50 years ago. He leaves a wife and six (sic) grown children, two sons and 5 daughters (sic) all of them being married. The funeral ceremony will be in charge of Rev. John P. Henson Sunday afternoon at 3. The burial service will be conducted by the Masons of which he was a member. Masons from a distance will please note the hour and assist the home lodge in the services.
Crawfordsville Journal Review April 4, 1953 - Waynetown - Mrs. Sarah S. Booe, 94, a pioneer Indiana school teacher, died Friday night at the Hart memorial Nursing Home in Crawfordsville following an illness of 8 months. Born Feb 5, 1850 in Montgomery County, Mrs. Booe was the daughter of Caleb and Caroline C. Clevenger Reath. She married Daniel Booe Nov 9, 1879. She was a member of the Alamo Christian Church. She taught for several years in the rural schools of West Central Indiana. Surviving are a daughter, Dora Alward, Alamo; a granddaughter, Mrs. Helen Isbell, Elkhart, a grandson, Paul R. Alward, Lafayette, a great grandson, Paul H. Alward, Lafayette and a brother, Elem Reath, RFD 1, Waynetown. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Grenard & Servies Funeral Home in Wayentown with burial at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Rev John R. Servies will be the officiating minister. Friends may call at the funeral home.
