    3. Crawfordsville Journal Review Sat, March 21, 1964 -- C.J. (Jack) Utterback, 76 died suddenly at 4 p.m. Friday at his home 1610 E. Wabash Ave. He was fatally stricken just two weeks after returning from Florida. Mr. Utterback had been employed at an aluminum plant at Lafayette, had operated a greenhouse on Ladoga Road and worked for several years at a brickyard here. He was widely known for his hobby in flower gardening. He was an Army veteran of WWI. A native of Elmdale he was a son of John and Martha Utterback and was born Jan 1, 1888. He attended schools in thecounty and also business college. He was married in Crawfordsville October 18, 1922 to Kathryn M. Walden who survives. Surviving beside the wife are two daughters, Mrs. David Carver and Mrs. Richard Earl and a son, David Utterback and 8 grandchildren. Another son, Robert Clayton Utterback was killed in action March 19 1945 while serving in WWII on the USS Franklin. Also deceased are 5 brothers and a sister of Mr. Utterback. He was a member of and had served as Sunday School teacher and deacon in Pleasant View Baptist Church. Services are announced for 3 p.m. Monday at that chruch with Rev. Paul Hubble officiating.

    3. Crawfordsville Journal Review 23 March 1964 -- Harold B. (Bud) Duke, 48, 612 Thornwood Rd, died Saturday afternoon in Culver Hospital after an illness of several months. Mr. Duke had 27 years service with RR Donnelley & Sons. He held executive positions in Chicago and Crawfordsville plants and was a resident manager of the plant at Willard, Ohio for several yeasr before returing to this city. A native of Waynetown, he was born November 25, 1915 to Albert and Eula Biddle Duke. He was graduated from Waynetown HS and from the Donnelley firm's apprentice program. He was married in Clermont Feb 7 1937 to June Tinsley who survives. Mr. Duke was a member of the Wabash Avnue Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge No. 385 of HIllsboro, the Shrine, Elks Lodge and American Legion. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He was in the signal corps in WWII. Surviving besides the wife are the parents of Waynetown; a daughter, Linda; four sisters, Mrs. Robert Frame; Mrs. Bud Rowland III; Mrs. Donald Switzer; and Mrs. Robert Sorensen and a brother, Donald Duke. Mr. Duke was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Edward and James Daniel Duke. Friends may call at the Hunt & Son Funeral Home, where funeral services are announced for 2 p.m. Tuesday with Dr. John DeKruyter officiating. Interment will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.

Crawfordsville Journal Review ? 8 June 1953 (not in index but prety sure it's from this paper)-- Funeral services for Mrs. Ida May Deer (sic) 82, who died Saturday in her home here after a long illness, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Bpatist Church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Deer was the widow of George W. Deer, a pioneer miller who for years operated Deer's Mill on Sugar Creek SW of here. She formerly was active in civic affairs of the community. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Surviving are a son and 3 daughters.

Crawfordsville Journal Review 26 June 1952 p 7 -- Mrs. Albert Wallace Everson, 40, the daughter of Mrs. James Wallace of this city died Wednesday of a coronary occlusion at her home in Costa Mesa, California. The wife of George T. Everson, former Crawfordsville resident, Mrs. Everson was born in this city Aug 7, 1911. Her father, the late James Wallace, former official of the Ben Hur Life Association died in 1933. Mr. and Mrs. Everson moved to California several months ago. Mr. Everson is in the real estate business there. Surviving besides the husband and mother, are 3 sons; Wallace Everson, Robert Everson and James Everson at home; a brother, Aaron Wallace; a sister, Mrs. Albert Karle, and two grandchildren. The body will be brought to Crawfordsville for funeral services and burial.

    3. Crawfordsville Journal Review 8 July 1950 -- Harry P. Elliott, 70 died Friday afternoon at 2 at his home, 803 E. Jefferson Street. Death came after a lengthy illness. Born Jan 2, 1880 in Montgomery County, he was the son of Willis and Emily Johnson Elliott. He married Mary Dixon in 1905 in Crawfordsville. Elliott was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and he and his wife had spent all of their married life at the East Jefferson address. He was a member of St. Bernard's Church. Surviving are the widow; two sons, Father James L. Elliott and Paul T. Elliott; two brothers, Gordon and Ross Elliott; a sister, Mrs. Arthur Stewart; two granddaughters,and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Gertrude and two sons, Joseph and William Edmund who died in Denver Colorado in 1946. A solemn requiem high mass will be held Monday morning at 10 at St. Bernard's Church. Celebrant will be Father James L. Elliott pastor of St. Thomas' Catholic Church in Elkhart, assisted by Father JC Keating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The Rosary society of the church will hold services Sunday night at 8 o'clock at the home. Friends may call at the home.

Crawfordsville Journal Review 8 April 1950 - Clinton Arnold, 74, maintenance supervisor at Culver Hospital the last 13 years died at 3:45 o'clock Saturday monring at his home, 406 Tinsley Avenue. He had been ill with a heart ailment since Wednesday. Born June 20, 1874 near Brazil, Mr. Arnold was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth Robinson Arnold. He married Florence Marsh of Darlington Dec 3, 1902. He was a member of the Congregational Christian Church in Darlington and Loyal Order of Moose in Kokomo. Surviving are the widow; a foster son Dr. Carl Parker; two grandchildren, and a great grandddaughter a twin brother Clifford Arnold of Lafayette; another brother, Henry Arnold of Seattle, Wash; five half-brothers, Richard, Roy, Jasper, Samuel and Harry Arnold all of Lafayette and a half-sister, Mrs. Daisy Robinson of Hammond. He was reared in the home of Mr. and Mrs. OJ Shaver. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Proffitt & Sons Funeral HOme. Burial will be in Darlington Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home.

    3. Crawfordsville Journal Review 7-19-1950 - Steve Court, 60, a resident of this city 28 years died of heart seizure at 5 o'clock Wed monring at Culver Hospital. He had been in failing health 4 years. Born in 1890 on the land of Crete, Mr. Court came to Crawfordsville in 1922 when he and a business associate, harry G. Gianakis, opened the New York She Rebuilders shop here. Previously he lived in Indianapolis. He was associated with the shoe shop until 1947 when he retired because of his health. Mr. Court was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church in Indianapolis. Since coming to this city he had attended the First Methodist CHurch. Surviving are three brothers, George, John and NIck Court and a sister, Mrs. Sophia Pataras and several nieces and nephews all living in Crete. The boy (sic - body) was taken to the Hunt & Son Funeral Home where firends may pay their respects after noon Thursday. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

    3. Crawfordsville Journal Review 28 July 1950 -- B. Frank Vaughn, 80, retired farmer, died at 11:40 a.m. Thursday at Culver Hospital. He had been a patient there 5 days. mr. Vaughn was born near Waynetown, Aug 8, 1869, the son of John and Esther Hunter Vaughn. On April 24, 1912, he was married to Ida M. Maxwell who died in 1928. Survivors include two step children and several nieces and nephews. He was a charter member of the Waynetown Chapter Knights of Pythias and Christian Union Church. The body will remain at Grenard & Servies Funeral Home until the funeral. Services will be conducted by Rev. Guy E Tremaine at 2 p.m. saturday at the Christian Union church. burial will be in Masonic Cemetery.

    3. Crawfordsville Journal Review -- 9 Nov 1951 -- Emory C. Krug, 77, former chief of the Crawfordsville fire department and a veteran of 38 years' service as a fireman, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon at his home, 312 S. Walnut Street. Mr. Krug's body was found by his son, Ralph Krug, living on State Rd 47 near the city, who called to se ehis father, late in the afternoon. Mr. Krug had been retired from the fire department for 4 1/2 years. He was chief from 1918-1922. He was a member of the First Christian Church, the carpenter union and Ben Hur Lodge. A native of Illinois, Mr. Krug was born Aug 20, 1874, the son of George and Evaline Hubbard Krug. The family moved to Wingate when he was only a few weeks old and he spent the remainder of his life in Montgomery County. He attneded Wingate schools. Mr. Krug was married twice and was preceded in death by both wives. In 1900 he was married to Cordelia Sassman who died in 1907. On Jan 2, 1909 he was married to Pearl Reynolds, who died Oct 11, 1950. Prior to his first marriage, Mr. Krug moved to crawfordsville. He had been living at the present address about 7 years. He shares a house with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald J. Sheets. Survivors in addition to the daughter with whom he lived and the son, Ralph include a sister, Mrs. Ollie Beck of Indianapolis, two nieces, Mrs. John Stofer and Mrs. William Fink of Indianapolis and two grandsons. In addition to the widow, one brother, Owen T. Krug and sister, Mrs. Jessie Knarr both of Indianapolis preceded him in death. Funeral services will be conducted at Bright Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in charge of Rev. BE Antrobus, pastor of Calvary Bpatist Church. Friends may pay their respects. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Crawfordsville Journal 30 Dec 1946 -- Mrs. Rosa Titus, 88, last survivor of a family of 11 children and a resident of Montgomery for nearly 4 score years, died at the Burnett Nursing Home, Lafayette at 7 o'clock Monday morning following a stroke suffered 9 days ago on Dec 21. Mrs. Titus was the daughter of David and Rebecca Balser Wert, early pioneers in Ripley Township. She was born March 16,1859 at the old homestead, two miles south of alamo, the youngest in a family of 11 children. Mrs. Titus secured her early education in the schools of Ripley Township and Alamo. Her marriage to Gilbert Titus, for many years continuing for 30 years a leading merchant in Alamo, took place July 14, 1878. After continuing for 30 years in business in Alamo Mr. Titus removed to Waynetown where he was in business for a number of years. His death occurred Jan 11, 1937. Since the death of Mr. Titus, Mrs. titus had spent much of the time with her only son, and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Titus, in Lafayette. Joining the Christian Church at Alamo when a girl 15 years of age, Mrs. Titus remained active for more than half a century in the work of the church. In addition to the son in Lafayette, Mrs. Titus is survived by two grandsons and two great grandchildren. The grandsons are Myron Hugh Titus of Lafayette and James C. Titus, FIndlay, Ohio. The body will be brought to the Waynetown Christian Church the church until the hour of the funeral at 2 o'clock. In charge of the funeral services will be the Rev. Fred Sharp, pastor of the church. Burial will be made in the Masonic Cemetery in Waynetown.

    3. Crawfordsville Journal Review 6-6-1951 - Pvt. Robert Russell Eubansk, 22 year old son of THomas and Ruth Pennock Eubanks of near this city was killed recently in the bitter fighting in Korea. The photo was taken during a visit her ein April immediately prior to his being sent overseas. The father, an employee of the Hydraulic Brick COmpany wa snotified of his son's death last Saturday. Pvt. Eubanks, who was in service with an airborne infantry unit was graduated from the Crawfordsville HS in 1947. Previously he attended Breaks School near the family home. Crawfordsville Journal Review 10-4-951 -- The body of Pvt. Robert Russell Eubanks, who lost his life in the fighting in Korea, is being returned to the US aboard the Exmouth Victory, the Department of Defense announced Wednesday. The ship also carrying the boeis of 612 other Americans is due to arrive in San Francisco Friday Oct. 5. The 22-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Eubanks, RFD 6, Crawfordsville, Pvt. Eubanks was killed in action in Korea while serving with the Army. He entered service last Dec 5. Official notification of his death was received by the father in June. A graduate of the Crawfordsville HS with the class of 1947, Pvt. Eubanks was employed at RR Donnelley & Sons when he entered service. Born Jan 14, 1929, Pvt Eubanks was the only son of Thomas and Ruth Pennock Eubanks. The father is an employee of the Hydraulic Press Brick Company.

Crawfordsville Journal Review 30 Aug 1951 - Linden - Ernest Harold Carr, 50, a native of Clinton County died at 12:30 o'clock Thursday morning at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville following a week's illness. Born near Colfax where he spent his childhood, Mr. Carr was the son of Minor and Mabel Carr. He was a member of the Potato Creek Methodist Church. Surviving are the mother, stepfather, Charles E. Irons, of near Darlington and two brothers, Henry M. Carr and Raleigh H. Carr both of Frankfort. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at Potato Creek Methodist Church. Burial will be at Union Cemetery near Colfax. Rev. Arthur Howell will officiate. Friends may call at the family home 6 1/2 miles southeast of Linden after 6 o'clock Friday evening.

    3. Crawfordsville Journal Review 10-23-1951 - Mrs. Gladys Allen Shoaf, 53, wife of Carl A. Shoaf of Crawfordsville psot office staff died at 6:50 o'clock Tuesday morning at Culver Hospital where she had been a patient two days. Born April 24, 1898 in Parke County, Mrs. Shoaf was the daughter of Joseph Franklin Allen and Rhoda Lee McMullin Allen. She married Carl A. Shoaf June 28, 1924. She was a member of the First Christian church. The family home is 203 W. Chestnut Street. Mrs. Shoaf's parents came to Crawfordsville in 1905. The father died in 1910, the mother 1922. Mrs. Shoaf who was associated with a number of the city's business houses, was employed at Bischof Store several years. Later she was associated with the farm loan branch of the Mutual benefit Insurance Company, the Bell Telephone Office, Crawfordsville Trust & Security Abstract. Mrs. Shoaf was a graduate of Crawafordsville HS. She also received her elementary school education here. Surviving besides the husband are a brother, William M. Allen of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. D. C. Livengood of Jacksonville, Ill; two uncles, Jesse McMullin of Rockville and Charles McMullin of California and two nieces, Mrs. Thurman J. Gates of yardley, Pa and Karen Lee Allen of Indianapolis. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock thursday afternoon at First Christian Church, Rev. Paul E. Million pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church one hour preceding the rites. Friends may pay their respects at Bright Funeral Home.

Chestnut.  She had been in failing health 4 years.  Mrs. Hardee was a daughter of Ransom and Sarah Surface VanCleave and was born near New Market March 19, 1868.  She married James A. hardee Dec 29, 1886.  She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church at Browns Valley.  Surviving her are two daughters, Lillian Hardee, at home, and Mrs. Dora Swisher of Crawfordsville; two granddaughters reared in her home, Marilyn at home and Beth Kelly of Anderson; 23 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren; two brothers, Jessie and Jonathan Vancleave of New Market and a sister, Mrs. Amanda Hicks of Crawfordsville.  The husband and five daughters preceded Mrs. Hardee in death.
