Does anybody know who John Thompson may have been who lived 5 miles N of Darlington? I think the survivor they refer to was Miss Margaret McCormick, who married John Thompson. Is that still Mong'y Co? What township? I haven't gotten out of Ripley yet to see what the other choices may be. LOL!! THE SUDDEN DEATH OF MRS. REBECCA M'CORMICK (Rebecca Wert McCORMICK) Widow of Former Well Known Farmer of Ripley Township Dead Relatives Thought She Was Sleeping Until They Attempted to Arouse Her. Mrs. Rebecca McCormick, aged sixty-seven, widow of James McCormick, one time leading farmer of Ripley township, died suddenly at her home three miles north of Alamo at five on Thursday morning. Her death was due to apoplexy and came as a great shock to her relatives and friends. Some member of the family went into her room about five and saw that Mrs. McCormick was apparently asleep. Later, when the member of the family returned to call her, and did so, she received no response. Examination proved that Mrs. McCormick was not sleeping, but dead. A physician was hastily summoned from Yountsville and he made every effort to restore her, but without avail. Mrs. John Thompson of five miles north of Darlington is a daughter. ~Crawfordsville Daily Journal 28 May 1915 p. 5 col 6. Transcribed by Suzy Wert **************New year...new news. Kathleen Lynch wrote: > Kim, this was a delightful picture of an old council meeting. You know, I am a "selectman" in my town, and despite the distance in time and space, this meeting sounds just like home to me. "The miserable crossing" really struck a familiar chord! Imagine the long dresses sweeping through the dust (and mud) of the street, and how welcome a brick crossing must have been. Why did Fashion and "propriety" have a influence over functionality? It seems that there would have been countless beautiful clothing items destroyed after a single walk down a city street, not to mention mud, and horse droppings.... Some of those fashions were interesting, but HIGHLY impractical. -- Jeffery G. I don't catch them all and sometimes I find ones I can't figure out, so there are more than one listed. In those cases if you run across duplicates, or people listed more than once, and can fill in blanks, I DO appreciate being notified so the data set becomes accurate and useful. Also the search engine is often the quickest route to data on more than one bio entry, often people are listed in other's bios and obits. Maiden names are used for women if known. Jeff -- Jeffery G.
