I didn't get the Wert obits -- no one would give up their microfilm reader :) Sorry -- I'll get 'em one of these days
Answer me this then Are you sure Dicy Hicks, I have Hiram in 1850 Pensylvania cenus, Name Hiram HEDLEY found on ancestry also found on C'vile library site, one dicey J. Headlle maiden name HICKS 2nd marriage, which Hiram died 1915, but this lists her as 22 years of age, can not be the same person, she married Newton Clarence Brown? Means Dicy Hicks was born 1894, and Hiram 1834 quite an age differance there. James M. Parsons Crawfordsville Daily Journal; 14 Sept 1917; 2:02 James M. Parsons was born in Lee county Virginia Feb 26, 1834, At the age of eleven years he moved with his parents to Indiana where he had continued to reside until his death which came Sept 12 1917, having reached the advanced age of 83 years, 6 months, and 16 days. His illness lasted but a little over a week but death had marked him for the quiet tomb and all that medical skill, kind hands, and loving hearts could do was in vain. We do not have the date of his first marriage but by this union there was one son still living, Elbert Parsons, of Sharon Springs, Kan. In 1866 he was married to Elizabeth Wirt* Humphrey of Alamo who survives him at the age of 80. No children were born to this marriage but he became stepfather to the two daughters of Mrs. Humphrey, the younger being but four and has known no other father. These daughters are Mrs Sylvia Rush of New Market, and Mrs. Nellie Byerly of Indianapolis. There are also two step-granddaughters, Mrs. Grace Pruitt of Medora, Ind., and Mrs. Jesse Cooper, of Indianapolis, at whose home last November 17 Brother and Sister Parsons celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. At the beginning of the Civil War Mr Parsons tendered his services to Uncle Same and enlisted in the 10th Indiana Volunteers as a private in Company H He served as long as his health permitted but took the typhoid fever and was honorably discharged form the service before the war closed. Almost half a century ago, he united with the Church of Christ at Alamo during the preaching of Elder Strouse, one of the pioneer Christian preachers of Indiana. For over fifty years he has been preparing to meet God and we feel sure that this meeting will not be a disappointment to either servant or Master. In business life he was honest, in the home life, kind and faithful, and on the street, he met everyone with a glad welcome. He will be greatly missed not only by his immediate family, but by the many friends he had made since sojourning with us the last four years. Short services were conducted at the home Friday at 1 o'clock by P. J. Lough and interment were made at Crawfordsville. *This should probably be cross referenced with Wert. I can't say how she spelled her name, but since she was David and Rebecca (Balser) Wert's daughter, she is part of the Elnathan Wert tree that settled in Fountain and Montgomery Counties in the 1830s. **************New year...new news.
