    3. Try getting it through your library, Interlibrary Loan. I only found this one because I was helping weed my daughter's library's collection. She HATES to weed and doesn't feel like she's capable enough whereas I LOVE to weed old books so I saw it and thought it sounded good - it was very intersting and quick-read except for the background of Purdue which I already knew. I also would like for him to have gotten more into her life as an Amish person -- more about her parents and why they rejected her and how it happened, but hey, it was still GOOD :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kathleen Lynch" <kslynch62@hotmail.com> To: "Montgomery County" <inmontgo@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 11, 2009 9:29 AM Subject: Re: [InMontgo] Remember the Amish novel I read -- read about on this link :) So not true but sort of based on it :) > > So now I want to read the novel, and it's $75? 3. Thanks, Karen. Keep in mind, that the "Three 13th'ers" are not exactly the ones who are seen in the photo. Only TWO in the photo were born on March 13th of different years. The THIRD 13th'er was NOT in the photo: their fourth bro., Jacob E. Todd, who was known as Jake. However, again I say, when you see THIS photo, remember the one thing that THESE three brothers in the photo DID have in common: the same exact parents. Their mother was Mariah Jane Hawkins Todd. However, the mother of Jacob (Jake,) the bro NOT seen in the photo, was Mary Ann Johnson Todd. All FOUR bros., John Henry, Frank, Noah, and Jake, were sons of John Starnes Todd. There were a whole bunch of other children from John Starnes Todd and both wives. TRIVIA: (Great) Uncle Frank, in the center of the photo, appears to be much shorter than the other two. Part of the reason for that was that he was stooped over. He stood that way and he walked that way. Evidently he had back problems. -----Original Message----- From: Karen Zach Sent: Saturday, January 10, 2009 5:42 PM To: Jeff@ibssg.org, inmontgo@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [InMontgo] 1952 PHOTO of JOHN Henry Todd & 2 of his brothers, Oscar Francis ("FRANK") Todd and NOAH Preston Todd. 1. Re: [InMontgo] Mrs Valentine Stout anybody know her maiden name?
    2. Yup. We're going with Jennie being her middle name. It doesn't annoy me when people don't use their real names, it just seems like something that needs an explanation so others can follow along if they are researching or reading. Suzy In the 1880 census, she's Cynthia J. Hole; in Indiana Deaths, she's Cynthia J. Stout. That makes a pretty good case for Jane or Jennie as a middle name. 1. Re: [InMontgo] Shelley or? as German name
    2. Kathleen Lynch
    3. Thank you, Sharon -- it's on my list! We have a strong undocumented suspicion that my Shelleys are related (in the old country) to the Shelleys of Shelley Island, PA. They definitely came to Pennsylvania separately. The earliest written documentation of the name is a reference to "that old Dunkard Adam Schillig" (an itinerant preacher). Old Adam seem to have been illiterate, though, so there's no knowing how HE said or spelled his name. Many other lines of descent from old Adam spell the name Shelly. The Shelley spelling seems to be an Indiana special -- three brothers who all used that spelling came here from Scott County Virginia: one to Wayne County, one to Union and then Boone County, and one to Hendricks County -- (and a sister to Montgomery County). The Swiss government website suggested Schalli; I have local acquaintances in Maine who are Scho[umlaut]lles. In a bid for Americanization, they say, "shoal." German names to America can be tough! It makes my Eller line look simple, but my Fulwiders can compete with anybody for spelling complications! And thanks for your suggestion, Sharon. I feel that from knowing just my grandparents' names and birthplaces to knowing eight generations to the immigrant ancestor in that line is probably going to be as much as I'm going to find, but it's very satisfying, even without European roots!
