Anyone working on this family in the Darlington area? I've got a major problem and need it fixed :) THANKS
Source: Crawfordsville Journal Review 10 Aug 1968 p 2 typed by Walt W Mrs. Mary C. Rich, 67, a teacher in the county and city school systems for over 44 years, died suddenly Thursday morning in Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. Mrs. Rich left Crawfordsville a week ago last Sunday for Hawaii on a conducted tour in the company of three other women from Crawfordsville. She maintained a home in Crawfordsville at 606 Thornwood Road. The deceased's profession career came to a close in the spring of 1967 when she retired from Hoover School. After her retirement, she served as a substitute teacher. A member of the First United Methodist Church, she also was active in its aid organizations — the Wesleyan Service Guild and the Alice Ross Sunday School Class. In addition, Mrs. Rich was member of the Pi Omicron National Sorority and served that group as a local and state president. She was also affiliated with Athens Chapter No. 97, Order of Eastern Star, Dorothy Q Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Women's Relief Corps, and the Association of University Women. Born in Montgomery County, she was the daughter of U. "Grant" and Mary Sayers Cave. She was reared and educated in this county and later attended Hanover College. She obtained her bachelor's degree from Indiana State Teachers College which is now Indiana State University, and later received a master's degree from Butler University. In 1947 she and Ruth Goff purchased Allen's Book Store and operated its establishment under the name of R & M Book Store. She later gave up her interest and the business is now called Marty's. She was married to Goleman Ramsey who died in 1933 and subsequently to Carl L. Rich who preceded her in death in 1955. Surviving are two brothers, Kenneth and Robert Cave, both of Crawfordsville, and a niece, Mrs. D. J. Mahan of Cincinnati, Ohio. A sister, Helen, also preceded her in death. Services are pending at the Bright Funeral Home.
Crawfordsville Journal-Review Oct 10, 1950 Ulysses Grant CAVE, former Union Twp. Trustee and one time teacher in the Montgomery Co. schools died at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at his home, 601 Crawford St. He had been in failing health six months and critically ill two weeks. Born in Clark co, Missouri, Mr. Cave was the son of James E. and Charlotte Kious Cave, both natives of Crawfordsville. He married Mary Virginia Sayers April 11, 900. A resident of Crawfordsville most of his life and an ardent Republican, Mr. Cave engaged in farming before entering politics. He served as Union Twp Trustee 12 years. In addition he also taught school for several years. Mr. Cave was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are the widow; two sons, Kenneth a member of the city police department and Robert also of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Ramsey a teacher at the Tuttle School; a sister, Mrs. Caroline SAIDLA, of Darlington; a granddaughter, Judith Ann Cave and several nieces and nephews. Besides the parents, a daughter preceded him in death. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Waveland Independent Waveland, Montgomery County, Indiana July 25, 1930 Mary Cave Ramsey sues for job There is a rule in this County which prevents married women from teaching in the schools. There have been a few exceptions but generally, "Mrs." was a complete bar. There has not been much reason back of this, as many of the married women were excellent teachers and gave at least as good if not better attention to the work than the unmarried ones. Now the courts are being asked to decide whether this regulation is legal. Mrs. Mary Cave Ramsey is suing the city of Crawfordsville because she lost her position when she got married. Had this not been done she would have been entitled to a permanent contract under the tenure law. She ought to have it as marriage has never been considered a crime in the eye of the law. __,_._,___
