Source: Waveland Independent Waveland, Montgomery County, Indiana Oct. 22, 1915 Sunday night between 11 and 12 o'clock, Mr. Will VanCleave walked outdoors but failed to return. His wife became uneasy but could not find him. She gave the alarm to the neighbors and search was made for him. The men searched the neighborhood and then tracked him to the creek. They then dragged the creek but could not find him. It was quite an exciting time. Monday, his brother, Henry and wife, of Crawfordsville were called. About 4 o'clock Mon. evening he was seen out in the barn lot walking around. He was asked where he had been and why he had done that. His reply was, "that he got mad at his family and went to the hay mow and hid under the hay." He said he got hungry and could stay there no longer. This is a warning to men. When you get mad at your family, don't go to the hay mow and stay there. It causes too much excitement.

Hadn't had many FUN little things via the list for awhile, so thought I'd pass this on -- I thought it was precious - LOVED to have seen it :) Wallace Vancleave Crawfordsville Review, March 11, 1916 Wallace Vancleave, of this place (Darlington) will give an old fiddlers contest on March 23 at the gymnasium Mr. Vancleave is called the one man band as he operates 15 different instruments at one time. 40 business men have offered prizes to be given to the contestants also $15 in money to be given to the winners. This will be something worth seeing and should be largely attended.

My grandfather, Herman Moore, is their son and was born in 1894. I found his marriage license and there he list his father and mother. I also have a newspaper clipping about Herman's death where Lucy is said to still be living. I have been unable to find much information on Allen Moore. I think he might be the son of Samuel Moore? I don't think he is the Allen Moore or Allen Jasper Moore from the Ohio line. I also don't think he is the Allen C. Moore either. It is possible that Allen Moore later married Louisa Stonebraker as my grandmother had some newspaper clipping about some girls with the last name of Stonebraker. I also found Herman was buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Crawfordsville with a lot of headstones with the Stonebraker name. It would be good to find a link between Allen Moore and Lucy Sykes. I have the census information for both Lucy and her son Herman. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I started trying another method, inspired by Mary K's reading of "grandson." I think it's a family name, so could we find a name that fits among the named people's relatives? I checked out three or four subjects by finding family trees for them online, and then looking at the index list, emphasizing names beginning with G/C, and ending with -son. It was a bare beginning, but I think the method has merit IF there's a family tree to look at! Anyone's welcome to join this game... old World Family Tree files shouldn't be forgotten. I've been told that some of the early online trees are going to be a)removed; b)converted to a $9.95/month membership plan, etc. Does anyone know which site, and if the stories are accurate? I couldn't tell if the removal referred to the tree or access to the tree in the highly indignant letter I received. Finally, I've been re-learning what I was told years ago: revisit old research. You know more now than you did then, and will see more meaning in the records. Altogether true! Also, many many postings simply weren't there to be looked at 10 years ago. Now it's time for Karen to tell the story of my kowtowing to her nine times for ignoring what she told me about Shelleys in Waynetown, certain (in my ignorance) that what she was saying couldn't pertain to my family! I'm fairly sure it ends with son - since it was the Compton photobook, the Compton makes sense and I agree it could easily begin with a C but -- lson -- o rdson sure seems exactly what it says at the end. Thanks for posting the URL -- I'd been wondering what this was all about. I looked at Willie -- I'll claim him, any day! What a boy! I thought I'd guess his name -- Will* Crewdson? Born about 1880 -- so I checked Ancestry. How funny is this? There was one! Except he was born in Manchester in the UK! No Indiana connection at all.
