Bloomington (Bloomington, Monroe County, Indiana) Evening World, July15, 1910, p. 1. BIG STONE CONTRACT MAY BE LANDED Greatest Church in World To Be Built of Indiana Stone. EXPERTS AND ARCHITECTS HERE A party of prominent architects and stone men from Washington, D. C., were in Bloomington today visiting the quarry district. They are interested in the construction of the proposed National Cathedral at Washington, a $5,000,000 house of worship. The party was at Bedford all of Thursday. The contract for a portion of the church is to be let soon and it is supposed that the present visit of these experts is for the purpose of examining and inspecting Oolitic stone, it being understood that the Henley company and perhaps others in Bloomington will bid on the job, which will be a big one, although only one section of the church is to be built at his time. The Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul, which is to be built on St. Alban Heights, Washington City, is the result of effort and vision of Bishop Satterlee, and is some times referred to as the National Cathedral, because it is national in scope. It will be built of Indiana stone, and when completed, which may not be for years, it will probably be the finest church edifice in the United States and it is estimated that it will cost in the neighborhood of $5,000,000.
