Chicago (IL) Inter Ocean, November 15, 1876, p. 2. MURDER AT BLOOMINGTON Bloomington, Indiana, November 14-Joseph Hook, an engineer on the L., N. A. and C. Railroad shot and killed John McShane here today. The men were friends, and with several others were engaged in a social chat in a shoe shop on Fifth Street when a quarrel arose over a chew of tobacco. McShane was formerly a butcher in Indianapolis. Hook is in jail under charge of murder in the first degree.
