    3. Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Progress, February 2, 1872, p. 3. Chips and Splinters. Frank Fee bought a roll of butter, last Friday, which, to all appearances, was solid and honest-it weighed well, at least. A short time had elapsed until the roll was cut for a customer, when singular to relate, a liberal sized chunk of ice was found in the center! Now, how did that ice get there? Various theories are advanced, the most plausible one being that the whey froze in the churn, and the butter gathered about it------ Constance T.
