    1. [INMONROE] Work Started on Temporary City Jail
    2. Randi Richardson via
    3. Bloomington (Monroe County, Indiana) Star, February 8, 1935, p. 1. NOTE: The item below was abbreviated from the original as shown by the ellipsis. WORK STARTED ON TEMPORARY JAIL FOR CITY Rush Construction of New Quarters Construction work was started Thursday on a temporary jail for city prisoners in the basement of the city hall. The new lockup, which will be in use until the new county jail is built, will occupy two rooms, one of which has been used as Boy Scout headquarters for the White River council area, and the other for a supply room by the city water works. The Boy Scout office has been shifted to the third floor of the city hall. Bars will be placed on all windows in the two rooms. The partition will be eliminated between the rooms making it one large room. Cots or bunks will be placed in the enclosure and a space provided for serving meals when necessary. Mayor Berndt stated that the arrangement would not be permanent but that when the county completed the new jail, plans might be drawn up to include a tunnel between the city hall and the jail.
